The marching arts industry (specifically marching bands) has been heavily impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic within the country and all over the world. Batteryheadz Showcase 2022 aims to revitalize the marching arts scene, done in a small scale, to encourage more of such type of performances in Malaysia that encompasses school, university and organization projects with limited budget and resources. We hope that this showcase will provide a platform and inspiration for other marching arts organizations in Malaysia to sustain the love and passion for the activity.
The Awakening explores the story of developing bodies, raging emotions, and the love for the arts that lasts forever. The production follows a group of musicians as they grapple with the difficulties of a world striving in a post-pandemic era.

Act 1:
Setting the scene, within a dark atmosphere. The journey of the characters begins, entering an unknown space.
Act 2:
Building the tension, the scene transitions into various moods and setting throughout the piece, explored and portrayed by the characters.
Act 3:
The exciting bit, the tension builds up in terms of sound and movement. The characters are lost in all the chaotic moments, helpless and hopeless.
Act 4:
Tidying up loose ends, a moment of a brief release in tension, different sounds are introduced. The scene starts to appear brighter. The characters are provoked mentally and spiritually.
Act 5:
Ending the story, in full view of all motions, sound and space. The characters in search for redemption and hope. The Awakening is fulfilled.
Batteryheadz Percussions (BHP) was formed in May 2010 by young percussionists coming from different backgrounds such as musicians, educators, designers, accountants, athletes, students and many more. The group serves as a platform for the members to express their passion and love in music through percussive instruments and anything related to drumming. Although BHP is well known for performing using marching percussion instruments primarily found in marching bands, the members are also capable of experimenting with new sounds and material, such as playing on recycle items such as dustbins, boxes, pans etc. BHP constantly aims to excite and impress audiences in each of their performances and competitions. The goal of BHP has always been to create an energetic, attractive and entertaining performance for our clients and audiences alike.
Chia cHENG kOK founded the very first percussion ensemble in Malaysia, Percussion Ensemble of National Symphony Orchestra (PENSO) with the support of the National Symphony Orchestra, Malaysia and J.S. Music in 2013, which is now known as Percussion Store Percussion Ensemble (PEPS). PEPS comprises of members who are mostly teachers and university students. In year 2015, PEPS had won the champion in Winter Guard International (WGI) in International Open Categories and National Open Categories in Malaysia with the collaboration with the well-known drumline Batteryheadz.
HornBae was founded in 2019 for the love of music and marching arts. HornBae is a 10-piece ensemble of Malaysia's finest musicians, consisting of Trumpet, Saxophone, Tuba, and Percussion, who bring music and genres that make your toes tap and your face smile. The goal of the HornBae Brass Band is to take marching arts to a whole new level and bring it to the stage to promote marching arts and to provide a new kind of experience to everybody who watches the Show.
