First, some relavent information:I'm running Ubuntu 16.04 on a Microsoft Surface Book, using an awesome, reliable, custom kernel from this repository. The Surface Book has 2 batteries. One battery in the Surface screen that can be detatched and work standalone like a tablet, and one battery in the keyboard.

The issue:When my Surface Book batteries get low, Ubuntu notifies me with a pleasant 'chime' sound that I'm at xx%. All is well... The problem is that when I plug in my Surface Book, The pleasant 'chime' sound goes off almost every 10 seconds. Upon asking the repository maintainer what the issue could be, he basically said that the issue cannot be fixed on his end because the way the Surface Book works is that one battery charges for 10 or so seconds, then it stops charging while the other battery charges for 10 or so seconds. Basically the batteries don't both charge at the same time- they alternate back and fourth. My belief is that this causes Ubuntu to think I'm unplugging the charger to one of the batteries although I am not.

Solution? For now, I just want to turn the 'chime' off completely. I have tried uninstalling a few things like indicator-battery to no avail, and several other things. I cannot seem to figure out what package the chime is coming from. Otherwise i could just replace the wav or ogg file with a silent tone!! Any suggestions?

I had issues with a battery utilization alert/sound that would play repeatedly as my battery would switch back and forth between fully charged and current being drawn from it. This was particularly noticeable when loading webpages that contained video players, a process that involves more computations than the system's base state.

Anyway, the solution for me was to rename a oga file in a similar directory as this one. I moved the following files and it appears to have resolved my issue (difficult to say as there are other factors in play that I do not have control over [the software playing the sound] and other factors whose values I no longer have an outward indicator for [the battery's charge level]). Files were at the locations:

Update: I discovered the package causing the sound. It's indicator-power, and I found the .ogg file it's called "Low battery.ogg" located in /usr/share/indicator-power/sounds/ - I guess I will just rename it for now, but if anybody has any other idea on how to prevent the sound from occuring when not on the charger, that would be neat.

Since a couple of days my Ring doorbell sends a push notification when the battery is at 30% or 20%. This notification is using the same sound as when someone rings the door which is confusing when someone is actually ringing the doorbell.

Hey neighbors! There is not a way to turn off this Low Battery notification at this time or change the alert tone type. Rest assured I have passed on this feedback to the appropriate teams and we are looking for alternative solution at this time, as I have also seen this on my Ring app/phone and found it confusing at first too. I will make sure to keep you updated here if we are able to make any changes in the near future to this feature, and appreciate the patience in the meantime.

This is taking too long to resolve, the notification woke us and our dogs up around 5 am this morning as well. If Ring is unable to figure out a solution revert to the previous non intrusive method as this is not a customer friendly/requested change.

This is ridiculous because even when I put the tone volume at 15% my airpods still make the stupidly loud doo-doo doo doo noise that makes me want to kms when they reach 10% battery. WHYYY. Pls ffs Apple just fix this and stop hurting my ears every time my air pods are low ??

It's pretty disturbing that this was left this way for so long. I'm constantly desperate and living on the edge, afraid for when my airpods go to low battery.... It's really hurtful and triggers so many emotions, especially irrational anger and expletive-filled internet queries in search for a solution.

Yes, this needs to change. The 'low battery' notification is at maximum volume and is not only jarring but can damage your hearing. I have seen one answer to this question, which I tried, but did not work (go to settings>accessibility>airpods; I tried this, there is no 'airpods' menu option in accessibility.

This is the main reason I am refusing to buy a new set of airpods. There is no reason to have that notification be so loud every time when emergency alerts are at a lower volume, and it completely defeats the purpose of wearing airpods to sleep or relax.

OMG painfully loud! It hurts! Unbelievably loud, never has any music/sound from my Airpods Pro 2 Gen been too loud except for the painful ear/brain piercing low battery alert alarm. This is truly shocking that it exists as such because it could cause physical harm/ damage. Please tell me there is a way to change it, cancel it, something??

Try turning off the headphones safety. It worked for me. There is a bug where the low battery sound is dependent on the set volume. And if you set the limit to 70 decibels you tend to have the volume set to the maximum.

Same with mine...after update I get a notification sound every 10-20 seconds. Only when plug in so I assume its a charging sound. Unless there is a secret setting somewhere...Fix this please! Very annoying!

I wanted to update this topic and let everyone know what stopped the constant charging notification sound for me. I was using my Samsung fast charger to charge my Quest 2 for a long time now without issue up until V60 update...I saw a post about this topic and a suggestion to use the OEM charger and cable...as soon as I switched to the OEM charger the issue stopped. I only get the sound once when first plugging in the cable to charge. I hope this helps some of you with this frustrating issue.

Something I liked from my previous wireless Corsair headset was the tone that started playing to indicate low battery. On the Corsair Void Wireless headset low battery charge is indicated ... how? Actual charge is indicated in the CUE software, and current charge whilst charging is apparently indicated on the side of the headset (impossible to see whilst wearing it), and on the mic lights (...also impossible for me to see whilst wearing it - I don't have an angle that lets me see that whilst wearing it).

The headset doesn't seem to have a tone that plays at low battery, so I've no means of telling the charge of the device whilst wearing it, other than checking with CUE every so often. Is there a setting to enable that tone or some aural cue that the headset needs charging? Or is it not implemented at all?

I can confirm I've gotten a vocal warning, but I'm not sure it repeats, and if I happen to miss it that means the battery will just run down without any further warnings. Can someone tell me if it's meant to repeat or not?

You can adjust the volume of sound effects played by your AirPods, such as when you put them in your ears, press and hold the Touch control on AirPods Pro (2nd generation), or receive low battery alerts.

yes, im having the exact same problem as discussed here and from the replies it seems having a notification to tell you there's still have a THIRD battery life left, that you cant turn off, adjust or turn down from maximum volume is "performing as expected" and is "not a fault". so basically, regardless of how annoying, impractical and choiceless it is, someone thought it was a good and necessary idea? whats next, no 3.5mm headphone socket?

Hi All,

We of course always strive to improve our products and services and all customer feedback is very important to us. As I mentioned previously, the way the the notifications work currently is not an error, but this does not mean that we ignore your feedback. Please rest assured that I will forward your thoughts internally, thank you for showing your interest in the product and feature!

@Glitch-- I understand how you feel, as it uses the Notification set under Settings > Sound > Notification sound. Could you perhaps change this, or go change the Messages notification sound so that you may differentiate these? To do so, go to Messaging > Menu (3 dots in the top right) > Settings > Notification sound.

the "work around" kind of works in a "not really" kind of way. (note: you have to set the global notification setting first then the message notification) basically you have to find a sound/tune that is bareable at full volume because maximum is the only volume this and only this notification is played at.

my original notification is great on lowest to second lowest volume but completely obnoxious at full volume so i suggest something of a lower, shorter tone. i chose the "pop" sound because its one of the shortest. it still makes the speaker crackle at full volume but at least it doesnt last long. of course the caveat is, all other notifications that use this setting will play at the same low volume as what youve set the global volume to, so basically if you pick a quieter sounding tone it will be much less audible, if at all.

I have owned a Sony phone for many years but not being able to disable this annoying battery notification is extremely frustrating . So much so I will be changing phones as soon as my contract ends. This is such a simple fix and an easy addition to any update but nothing has been done. Why Sony want this feature is beyond me and why they won't resolve such a simple issue is ridiculous . The battery level is displayed on the screen why do I need to be woken up with a loud beep every night for no reason. Sort it out Sony or I'm off

Hi @Pingla, are you referring to the notifications, or the actual sound which comes with the notification?

Regarding the sound, I posted some information regarding that in the link provided by @alexdon. Namely, you may mute the first notification at 30% by setting notification sounds to None under Settings > Sound > Notification sound > None, but the notification at 15% will still be present. This won't mute the notification at 15%, it can only be muted by setting the device sound settings to Mute. You may do so by lowering the volume completely with your physical volume buttons on the side of the device, and then tapping it depending on if you prefer Vibration mode or completely Mute.

As far as the notifications themselves go, I'm afraid that there is currently not a setting for disabling these, I apologize if it is an inconvenience for you.
