Bat cause many problems when they find themselves inside the home. Firstly, they can cause damage to the walls and insulation of the home because of how they can squeeze into small spaces. According to the Mayo Clinic, histoplasmosis is an infection caused by breathing in spores from a fungus that is typically found in bat droppings. Most people with histoplasmosis never develop symptoms, but it can be a serious condition for infants and individuals with weakened immune systems. 

Bats are under federal protection for several reasons. Firstly, they contribute a lot to the ecosystem. Mainly, bats eat pests which saves farmers thousands in crop damage and pesticide costs every year. Secondly, White-nose Syndrome, a fungal disease, has killed millions of bats in North America over the last decade, making them endangered and federally protected.
