Research Overview

Organisms interact with the environment via ecological processes, and behavior represents one of the most immediate ways in which these interactions are expressed. Behavioral responses are often mediated by cognitive processes that enable organisms to sense, interpret, and respond to environmental cues. Understanding these mechanisms has become increasingly important in the context of the Anthropocene, where climate change, rapid urbanization, and other human-driven transformations are reshaping the environment.

At the Behavioral Ecology and Cognition Group (open to participation and collaborations!), we investigate how organisms perceive, learn, and adapt to changing environments. Our research integrates perspectives from behavioral ecology, cognition, and evolutionary biology to understand the mechanisms underlying animal behavior and decision-making.

Using a multidisciplinary approach that combines field studies, experimental research, and quantitative analysis, we explore fundamental questions about how animals respond to ecological challenges and environmental change. By advancing a deeper understanding of behavior and cognition in natural systems, our work aims to contribute to the development of informed solutions to pressing environmental and societal challenges. 

How and why do we do research?

At its heart, science begins with simple but profound questions about the world: how, what, when and why? Our research group is guided by an enduring curiosity while using modern tools and approaches to explore the mechanisms that shape the interactions of organisms and the natural world.
