Here is my fanciful ink sketch from The Boat pub by the canal on Monday evening. It was a very dramatic and short time to work. A great thick cloud was covering the sun. I started to do that then the sun came out and almost blinded myself and the other artist in the picture. There you go. That's the real fun of landscape sketching.

"What a perfect evening for sketching on the canal. We split into 2 groups, Andy Lee, Lynda Monk and Jackie Hodgson chose the Rising Sun end, but David, Katie Jones, Angela and I decided on views from the other side of the bridge from The Boat. The temperature and light were perfect. I struggled with a more complicated composition than I normally attempt and stuck with pencil rather than ink or watercolour. I started the view 4 times! (Halfway through the time, the boat on the left left its mooring, manoeuvred 180 degrees and set off towards Canal Fields.) I couldn't get the tone or colour in the available time, but may work from a photo at some point. David drew me and the lock gate I was sitting behind! Angela chose the lock keeper's Cottage and Katie has posted hers separately. It would be good to see yours, Andy & Lynda". Tracy Dudley
June 26 Great Gaddesden Cottages, Church and Churchyard
Very successful evening at Great Gaddesden. Seven or eight of us outside this cottage. This is my very relaxed (no drawing) water colour. The owner of the cottage came out to chat and insisted on seeing all our sketches. She was delighted and pointed out that everyone's style was very different.

Another pleasant evening's sketching, 'canal bridge at Boxmoor', I forgot my glasses but had to have a go anyway on the positive side . . . it stopped me getting into too much detail Yep, that's Jackie on the bridge

A work in progress from tonight's drawing evening on the towpath in Boxmoor, using an Edding 55 pen and waterbrush. Starting with the furthest point I could see along the towpath, I miscalculated the position of the closest narrowboat!
About halfway through, Wendy Sage came to sit on the side of the towpath, so I added her in (she needs grounding ).....
this took under an hour; quite an achievement for me as I'm usually quite slow!
