If you want high-fidelity audio for live performance or deep music immersion with a secure, wired connection, choose BASN Metalen 4; if you need all-day wireless comfort, active noise cancellation for travel, and massive battery life, choose 1Mii Y8+.
• BASN Metalen 4: Its biggest strength is the hybrid 4-driver setup delivering audiophile-grade detail and sound isolation for musicians and bassists. Its biggest trade-off is that it is strictly wired, requiring a cable management strategy and a constant physical connection to your source.
• 1Mii Y8+: Its biggest strength is the combination of Bluetooth 6.0 connectivity, active noise cancellation, and an incredible 100-hour playtime that eliminates charging anxiety. Its biggest trade-off is the over-ear design, which is bulkier and less portable than true wireless or in-ear options.
• Who is this for? The BASN is for teens who are serious about music production, band practice, or critical listening where zero latency matters. The 1Mii is for teens who commute, travel, or study in noisy environments and prioritize convenience and silence over absolute portability.
The BASN Metalen 4 is built like a tool for professionals and enthusiasts who treat music as more than just background noise. This isn't a pair of disposable earbuds; it is a set of In-Ear Monitors (IEMs) designed with a reinforced metal enclosure and a specific focus on the "Audiophile" experience. The core appeal here lies in its driver configuration. By utilizing two Balanced Armature drivers alongside two Dynamic Drivers, the Metalen 4 separates frequencies with precision that simple single-driver headphones simply cannot match. This hybrid architecture ensures that the low-end thump stays tight while the highs remain crisp and detailed, making it an excellent choice for anyone trying to distinguish individual instruments in a complex mix.
For a teen involved in a band, playing drums, or learning guitar, the practical features of the BASN Metalen 4 shine. The unit includes two detachable MMCX cables, one of which is a braided silver-plated OFC cable for pure signal stability, and another fiber cable equipped with an inline microphone for calls. Both cables are rated to withstand 8,000 pull tests, meaning they can handle the rigors of stage use or being tossed into a gear bag without fraying. The earbuds themselves offer robust noise isolation, capable of blocking out approximately 85% of background noise even in highly chaotic environments like a rehearsal space or a loud concert. This passive isolation allows the user to hear their own mix clearly without needing to crank the volume to dangerous levels.

However, this product demands a specific lifestyle. It is not for the casual listener who wants to pop something in their pocket and forget them. Because these are wired earbuds, you are tethered to your phone, tablet, or MP3 player via a 3.5mm jack. While the 52-inch length provides significant reach, it requires you to manage the cord during movement. Furthermore, the fit relies heavily on achieving a perfect seal using the included memory foam and silicone tips. If the seal isn't right, the isolation and bass response will suffer. Therefore, this is the pick for the teen who values sonic purity and durability over the freedom of cutting the cord. It is a serious piece of audio gear for those who are "in the trenches" of music creation or consumption.
The 1Mii Y8+ targets a completely different demographic: the mobile student, the traveler, or the commuter who needs a sanctuary from the world. As over-ear headphones, the Y8+ prioritizes comfort and coverage over portability. The earcups utilize hydrolysis-resistant protein leather paired with memory foam, ensuring that even after hours of wear, the pressure remains minimal. This is crucial for long study sessions or cross-country flights where a tight seal might cause fatigue. The standout feature here is undoubtedly the battery life. With an average playtime of 100 hours, these headphones can last weeks between charges, effectively removing the anxiety of a dead battery during a trip or a busy week of classes.
What sets the 1Mii Y8+ apart in the modern market is its advanced connectivity and smart features. Running on Bluetooth 6.0, it offers a stable wireless link that supports Hi-Res Audio via LDAC, allowing for high-bitrate streaming that preserves detail despite the wireless format. More importantly, it features Hybrid Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). Unlike the passive isolation of the BASN, this ANC actively neutralizes low-frequency droning sounds, such as airplane engines or bus rumble, creating a personal cocoon of silence. This makes it arguably the best option for teens navigating loud public transit or open-plan classrooms where they need to focus without distraction.
The device also integrates deeply with a companion app, offering custom EQ adjustments, ANC control, and even AI-assisted translation features. You can double-tap the earcup to manage tasks, access voice assistants, or switch to transparency mode to hear announcements without removing the headphones. The inclusion of a 3.5mm jack means you aren't locked entirely into wireless mode if your battery dies, but the primary value proposition is the seamless, wire-free experience. This product fits the teen who spends time in transit, works in noisy environments, or simply prefers the immersive feel of over-ear cups that cover the entire ear rather than sitting inside the canal. It is designed for the user who wants technology to fade into the background while they get work done or enjoy a movie.
• Best for Battery Life → 1Mii Y8+: With a staggering 100-hour playtime compared to the infinite power supply of wired earbuds, the Y8+ wins decisively for long trips.
• Best for Sound Detail & Frequency Separation → BASN Metalen 4: The dual dynamic and dual balanced armature drivers provide a level of clarity and separation that dynamic-only drivers struggle to match.
• Best for Travel & Commuting → 1Mii Y8+: The active noise cancellation and foldable over-ear design make it ideal for blocking out engine noise and saving space in a backpack.
• Best for Live Performance & Rehearsal → BASN Metalen 4: The rugged, sweat-resistant build and reliable wired connection prevent dropouts during intense physical activity or stage performances.
• Best for Portability & Discretion → BASN Metalen 4: These in-ear monitors are small enough to hide under a hoodie and don't draw attention like bulky over-ear cans.
• Best for Smart Features & App Control → 1Mii Y8+: Custom EQ, AI translation, and voice assistant integration via the app offer a modern, tech-forward experience the BASN lacks.
• Best Value for Musicians → BASN Metalen 4: Including two high-quality detachable cables and a metal carrying case, this package is tailored specifically for instrumentalists.
• Best for All-Day Comfort → 1Mii Y8+: The protein leather and memory foam padding allow for extended wear without the ear fatigue common in tight-fitting IEMs.
In my opinion, if you are buying for a teenager, the 1Mii Y8+ is the more practical choice for daily life. Most teens spend a significant amount of time moving between school, home, and extracurriculars, often in noisy environments. The ability to block out distractions with active noise cancellation and go days without charging is a game-changer for their productivity and peace of mind. However, if that teen is serious about music—playing in a band, recording, or studying audio engineering—the BASN Metalen 4 is the superior tool. It offers a fidelity that wireless headphones simply cannot replicate and the durability needed for actual performance. Ultimately, I would recommend the 1Mii Y8+ for the general teen user seeking the best active noise cancelling earbuds for teens, while reserving the BASN for the specific music enthusiast who needs studio-grade monitoring.
The 1Mii Y8+ is excellent for gaming due to its wide soundstage and lack of latency issues with Bluetooth 6.0, though the BASN Metalen 4 offers zero-latency wired performance preferred by competitive gamers.
Both products represent solid value within their respective categories, but pricing fluctuates based on current market conditions, so checking the latest price on Amazon is recommended before purchasing.
The BASN Metalen 4 uses passive sound isolation via a tight physical seal in the ear canal, whereas the 1Mii Y8+ uses active electronic noise cancellation to cancel external sounds digitally.
The BASN Metalen 4 is designed with sweat resistance and reinforced cables for active use, making it safer for gym workouts than the over-ear 1Mii Y8+, which is better suited for stationary activities or walking.
