How We Research
We compare products from their published specs and features; the verdicts below are our independent editorial opinions.
If you want a wired, stage-ready in-ear monitor with a replaceable cable and a genuinely sealed, noise-blocking fit, choose BASN Bmaster; if you need true wireless freedom, active noise cancellation and a pocket-size charging case, choose Audio-Technica ATH-CKS30TW+.
• BASN Bmaster — biggest strength: A triple-driver setup (two dynamic + one balanced armature) with over-ear cable routing, a 360° MMCX lock-snap connector and two included cables. That's a lot of hardware for someone who wants a wired monitor that stays put.
• BASN Bmaster — biggest trade-off: It's fully wired. No Bluetooth, no ANC, no charging case — you're tethered to a 3.5 mm source at all times.
• Audio-Technica ATH-CKS30TW+ — biggest strength: True wireless with active noise cancellation, a hear-through/talk-through mode, a Soundscape function, low-latency gaming mode and a case Audio-Technica calls its smallest to date.
• Audio-Technica ATH-CKS30TW+ — biggest trade-off: It's a sealed earbud with a built-in battery, so once the charge runs out you're waiting, and there's no replaceable cable to swap if something fails.
• Choose BASN Bmaster if you play, monitor or mix, want a cable you can replace, and prefer isolation from a physical seal over electronics.
• Choose Audio-Technica ATH-CKS30TW+ if you want no wires, app-based EQ, and noise cancellation you can toggle on a commute, at a desk or on a flight.
The Bmaster is built around a specific idea: give the ear a detailed, bass-forward monitor that seals hard and stays in place. BASN uses two dynamic drivers plus one balanced armature, which is an unusual triple-driver arrangement, and the stated result is enhanced bass with a slow decay — meaning low notes hang around a moment longer instead of snapping shut. Vocals, highs and mids are all called out as present, so the tuning isn't a one-note bass cannon. Frequency response spans 20 Hz to 20 kHz, impedance is listed at 18 ohm with 97 dB sensitivity, which tells me these are easy to drive straight off a phone or laptop jack — you don't need a dedicated amp to get usable volume.
The physical design is what separates it from a normal earbud. The housing is shaped to seal the ear canal, and BASN claims that sealing blocks ambient noise well, with "sound-canceling technology" preventing outside noise from intruding. I read that as passive isolation rather than active cancellation — there's no battery here, so nothing is generating anti-noise. The over-ear cable routing plus a formable wire means the cable hooks behind your ear and holds the earbud in position, which matters if you're moving around. Controls live on the inline remote: call control and volume.
The accessory list is where this thing punches above its weight class. You get a second cable — one inline-mic cable and one OFC silver-plated audio cable — and the MMCX connector uses a lock-snap mechanism with 360° rotation, so cables are replaceable and can pivot. There's a 6.35 mm adapter for plugging into an amp or interface, a cable clip, a cleaning tool, three pairs of memory foam tips and six silicone tips, plus a carrying case.
Buy it if you're a musician, drummer, mixing on a budget, or you just want a wired pair that isolates well and won't die mid-session. Skip it if you hate cables, want noise cancellation at the push of a button, or need something you can pocket without a wire trailing to your phone.
The ATH-CKS30TW+ is the opposite philosophy: cut the cable, add software. It runs Bluetooth 5.1 with a stated range of about 10 meters, houses 9 mm dynamic drivers, and leans on the Audio-Technica CONNECT app for most of its personality. Out of the box the tuning is described as clear and full-range with enhanced bass, and the app unlocks an ultra-low-frequency Bass Boost EQ plus four additional presets, including one that lifts vocal clarity and one tuned for gaming.
The feature list is what you're paying for here. Active noise cancellation lets you shut the world out at a desk or on a plane. Hear-through keeps music playing while you stay aware of traffic or a coworker. Talk-through pushes surrounding voices and announcements forward — genuinely useful at a train station. Then there's Soundscape, which plays nature sounds, a masking noise for concentration, or meditation audio. Low latency mode tightens the sync between audio and video, which is the difference between a watchable stream and a lip-sync mess.
The hardware is built for pockets. The charging case is described as Audio-Technica's smallest to date, in plastic, and the whole package weighs about 39.2 g. Battery life is listed at 6.5 hours on the buds themselves, with the case adding roughly 330 minutes — call it another 5.5 hours — and a full charge takes about 2 hours. Touch controls handle playback, and the buds are rated waterproof and dustproof for workouts and weather. Eartips come in XS, S, M and L, and there's a short USB-C cable in the box. The warranty runs 2 years.
Buy it if you want wireless convenience, app-level control and switchable noise modes for commuting, working or working out. Skip it if you need a wired connection with zero latency for live monitoring, or you want a cable you can replace yourself.
• Best for wired, zero-latency monitoring → BASN Bmaster. A physical 3.5 mm connection has no codec delay, which matters when you're playing along to a track.
• Best for freedom from cables → Audio-Technica ATH-CKS30TW+. Bluetooth 5.1, no wire to your phone, case in your pocket.
• Best for blocking noise without electronics → BASN Bmaster. The sealed housing and eartip selection do the work passively, and there's no battery to drain.
• Best for switchable noise control → Audio-Technica ATH-CKS30TW+. ANC, hear-through and talk-through are three different modes you can flip between.
• Best for replaceability and longevity → BASN Bmaster. Two cables included, and the MMCX lock-snap connector means a worn or broken cable is a swap, not a replacement purchase.
• Best for app features and gaming → Audio-Technica ATH-CKS30TW+. EQ presets, low latency mode and the Soundscape function all live in the CONNECT app.
• Best for all-day pocket carry → Audio-Technica ATH-CKS30TW+. Around 6.5 hours per charge plus roughly 5.5 more from the case, in a case designed to disappear into a pocket.
• Best for stage and studio use → BASN Bmaster. The over-ear routing, formable wire and included 6.35 mm adapter point squarely at musicians and monitoring.
In my opinion, most people reading this should buy the Audio-Technica ATH-CKS30TW+. For commuting, working, workouts and everyday listening, wireless plus ANC plus app EQ plus a tiny case is simply the more useful package, and the 6.5-hour bud life backed by the case covers a normal day. I'd only steer you to the BASN Bmaster if you specifically need a wired monitor: musicians, drummers, anyone tracking or mixing who can't tolerate Bluetooth latency, or anyone who wants a replaceable MMCX cable and a hard passive seal. That's a narrower group — but for that group, the Bmaster is the right tool and the ATH-CKS30TW+ isn't even in the conversation.
