Only the Bible holds the final authority for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness (II Timothy 3:15-17). This Declaration of Faith merely gives a taste of what we believe as a church. It is not meant to be complete. It is merely a summary. This Declaration of Faith is not intended to be a source from which we teach. We go directly to the Bible for that purpose. The scripture references provided with the study version of this Declaration of Faith will help the reader get to the true source of truth: God’s Word. The study version is found in FBC’s Mission/Vision Statement.
1. THE WORD OF GOD -- We believe that the Bible is God-breathed, inspired by God, God’s Word. It was written by men of God as the Holy Spirit moved them. The Bible is fully sufficient and trustworthy for life, faith, conduct, and practice, and is the supreme and final authority, as the inspired, infallible Word of God, in all matters to which it speaks. The Holy Spirit illuminates the text, enabling the reader to embrace the significance of what God has communicated, and to see the glory of Christ in the Word of God.
2. THE TRINITY – We believe in one God, Creator and Sustainer of all things, eternally divine existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit; we believe that these are equal in every distinct perfection and they execute distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation, providence, and redemption.
3. GOD THE FATHER -- We believe in God the Father, perfect in holiness, infinite in wisdom, measureless in power. We rejoice that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayers, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ His Son.
4. JESUS CHRIST – We believe that Jesus Christ is the incarnation of God's eternal Son. We believe further that He is not only true God, but also true man who came in the flesh, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. We also believe in His sinless life, His substitutionary blood sacrifice atonement, His bodily resurrection from the dead, His ascension into heaven, His priestly intercession on behalf of His people, and His personal return from heaven to reign and to judge.
5. HOLY SPIRIT – We believe that God the Holy Spirit comes to convict and convince the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment and to regenerate, indwell, sanctify, comfort, empower, and lead those who believe in Jesus Christ for godly living and service.
6. MANKIND -- We believe that all people by nature are born into sin, but that “God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16). We further believe that this salvation is based upon the sovereign grace of God, was purchased by Jesus Christ on the cross, is eternally secured by the Holy Spirit, and is received by faith apart from any human merit, works,or ritual. We believe, therefore, that those who accept Christ as Lord and Savior will rejoice forever in God’s presence in heaven and those who refuse to accept Christ as Lord and Savior will be forever separated from God in eternal hell.
7. THE CHURCH – We believe that the Church is the spiritual body of which Christ is the head. We believe that the true Church is composed of all persons who have been regenerated in Christ by the Holy Spirit. We believe that this body expresses itself in local assemblies of which Basin First Baptist Church is one. FBC is comprised of followers of Christ who regularly gather together for worship, instruction, evangelism, and service. FBC is committed to the regular, meaningful practice of baptism and the Lord’s Supper and the faithful adherance to the full counsel of God as given in the Bible.
8. CHRISTIAN LIVING – We believe that every human being is directly responsible to God in matters of faith and life. We further believe that the supreme task of believers is to glorify God in their lives and that their conduct should be blameless before the world. We also believe that they should be faithful stewards of their possessions, time, and talents and that they should seek to realize for themselves the full stature of maturity in Christ.
