Basic Blessing Project (BBP) is a student-led Lubbock County community project that aims to provide compassion and dignity for individuals and families who struggle to meet basic living and hygiene needs, including those who fall into the ALICE category.
ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed, this describes hardworking people who earn above the federal poverty line but still don’t make enough to consistently afford essentials like hygiene items, diapers, underwear, baby supplies, and personal-care basics. In Lubbock county alone, about 49% of households are either living in poverty or are ALICE families, meaning many struggle to afford basic essentials.
BBP provides free, packaged hygiene and baby-care supplies, warm and comforting basics, and dignity items so that no one in our community has to choose between soap or socks, diapers or food. BBP aims to create a safe, judgment-free space to help neighbors maintain health, dignity, and hope.
We noticed under met needs; like hygiene, dignity items, and especially baby supplies. Our goal is to meet essential needs that are often overlooked. Through kindness, community engagement, and student-led initiative, BBP seeks to uplift ALICE families, babies, and individuals in our city, because everyone deserves basic dignity and comfort, regardless of income.
BBP has helped many people and more to come, we have been receiving so much love, donations, and sign-ups. We are so happy to report that we have been doing well and over 90 people, especially mothers, have received the supplies and help they need and deserve. We have been working with nonprofits like The Daisy Project and Brittany and Devin's Angels and have been in communication with Lubbock's local help to maximize our impact.
