RSC production

This is a photo of the crew at the RSC production of A midsummer nights dream that we went to watch as you can see they had a huge crew ranging anywhere from prop technicians to wig and makeup supervisors.

With a crew this big they were able to have crew for all aspects of the play they needed some exaples of the roles of the crew are:

Props supervisor, assistant, specialised and senior wigs hair and make-up artists , wordrobe technitians grade 1,2 and 3, lighting technicians, sound technicians or even a captioner.

In our production however we did not have such a big crew, we had Josh who did lights, sounds and specialfx for our performence and we also had me and Hollyann who did props and costume, we had to make sure that the props and the costumes were taken out for rehersals and set in places where they were supposed to be for example the boxes were meant to be in the middle of the stage, and then at the end of rehersals it was our job to collect all of them and put them back in one safe place ready to be used again, another one of our responsibilities was to get all the props and costumes out to the tent prior to the performence and making sure they were all organised allowing for a smooth time when setting up for final rehersals and actual performences, also before the show we had to set up all the props and costumes again in places they were meant to be ready and acessible to actors, to take when needed,some responsibilities we had during the performence as crew is that we had to re set all props and costumes in between the performences making sure everything was in the right place and ready to go, for after the performance we had the job of taking all the props and costumes from the tent back to the theatre and sorting it all out back to its origional places, like costume cupboard or the back room, but there were also some things we had to dissasemble like the transition hoop which we took the cloth off and the wall sign that the wall wore in the performence.

Throughout this crewing experience i have noticed some strengths and weaknesses i have in the role, some strengths i have are that i am good at following orders, so when Hollyann was putting props away and needed something like for example the prop scripts collected she would ask me, i feel like this is a good skill to have as in a crew not everyone can be a leader all the time thats why its significant to also be able to follow orders and help out when needed, another strength i have is that i am very reliable, for example if someone told me that they needed their props in a certain place set up for the start of the performence they know they can count on me to get it done, this is also a really good skill to have as its important to take your role in the crew seriously as well as other actors, so for thata reason its important to help eachother out and do what you have to to allow fro a smooth run of the performence. I do also have weaknesses that i want to work on for future crewing jobs, one of the weaknesses i have is that i tend to procrasinate a lot when it comes to rehersals as i know its not the real thing in the back of my head and even though that should not change anything i tend to drift off and waste a lot of time in which i could be getting stuff done in, to work on this i will do focus exercises one focus exercise that i have found that has been helping me regain focus is a counting exercise, its when i count from 100-0 in my head, this helps me focus and get back on track so i will start to use it any time i find myself drifting off. Another thing that i could work on is being up and ready at all times, what i mean by this is that i want to be at a point where i dont have to be reminded what it is that has to be done but instead be up and getting it done right away, this woukd be a really good skill to build on as employers are looking for efficient put together and focused crew members that will be eager to get the tasks done as soon as possible rather than waiting till the last minute to complete my given tasks, to work on this i will go up first thing upon arrival and asses the situation seeing what needs to be done and when and make myself a to do list to make sure i dont forget anything or that i wont be late doing it, this will really help me as i work better and get stuff done more efficiently when i have a set plan in place knowing what i need to get done and when. Overall i would definetaly take up ancrewing unit again making sure to apply all the stratagies i put in place to better myself and improve really showing my best self anf giving it my all.
