Errors are an important statistic for evaluating the defensive abilities of individual players and teams. An error caused by a fielder could have been a missed 'out' opportunity and possibly result in the batter advancing an extra base. A good fielding side has low Errors committed and a high number of Total Outs.
Findings from the graph -
New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, and Toronto Blue Jays are the best teams having created a higher number of Outs and committed a relatively lower number of Errors.
There is a huge difference in performance between these Top 3 teams vs the other three.
New York Yankees are topmost in this fielding statistic having made the most Outs and least Errors.
Each inning in a baseball game has a maximum of 3 outs for the batting team. Generating more Outs would result in the opponent team getting less number of chances to score runs which is beneficial for the fielding side. A win is earned when a team scores more runs than their opponent and being able to restrict opponents to a lesser score through exceptional fielding contributes massively towards that.
In the following section, we analyze deeper into the Total Outs factor and compare teams on the level of StrikeOuts to better understand the performance of teams.
StrikeOuts are a huge part of Baseball and occur when a batter makes 3 unsuccessful attempts to hit a pitched ball, resulting in an 'out' for the batting team. A higher number of strikeouts made by a pitcher indicates their effectiveness and can reflect positively on the fielding abilities of the team as a whole.
Total StrikeOuts by Pitchers (SP) vs Total StrikeOuts made against Batters (SB) for each team
The percent value is defined as (SP - SB)/SP x 100. It tells us how much better the team has actually performed in StrikeOuts
Findings from the graph -
New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are the only teams with a positive % difference.
Total StrikeOuts by Pitchers is also the highest for these teams implying the presence of quality pitchers in their teams.
Generally, a high number of StrikeOuts made by a team and a comparatively low number of StrikeOuts created against the team are taken as strong indicators of team performance in Baseball, and since the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox have these exceptional fielding statistics, we can conclude that StrikeOuts along with Errors and Total Outs, on the whole, are strong indicators of a team's success.
