Major League Baseball (MLB) is the oldest major professional sports league in the world and is organized primarily in the US. MLB comprises of total 30 teams divided equally across 2 leagues - American League (AL) and National League (NL). The leagues are held each year and include fierce competition and heated rivalries between the teams. Each team plays to become the League Champion and eventually earns a chance to become the World Series Champion.
Through our project, we wanted to conduct a comprehensive analysis of data to explore team performance in MLB. Through the analysis of batting, fielding, pitching, psychological, and player metrics, we aim to gain insights into the top-performing teams and identify factors that contribute to their success that possibly lead a team to become a Champion. Our project seeks to provide a deeper understanding of team performance in Baseball and use the knowledge gained to truly understand what it takes to build a winning team.
The data for this analysis has been obtained from Sean Lahman's Baseball Database website. We have filtered the data to only include teams from the American League and have chosen the period of 2010 - 2019 for the analysis.
