PHILIPPINE INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY

he course is a study of the many cultural communities that comprise the totality of the Filipino nation - more specifically the indigenous communities which are often marginalized. It will present a brief description of all aspects of these indigenous communities as provided by extant literature, situating them in the context of the national history of the Philippines. The scope will include archaeological and anthropological studies on life, habitat and livelihood, religious beliefs, upland and lowland interactions, including their rights and beliefs. Their role in the history of the nation and issues concerning the society will also be highlighted.

1. Understanding of history as a social science/humanistic discipline .

2. Demonstrate a general knowledge of Philippine, Asian and World History.

3.Identify the primary and secondary sources necessary for the study of specific research problem; locate appropriate repositories such as archives, special collections and the like.

4. Analyze historical data from multiple viewpoints; complete a research using sound historical methodology; recognize other historical works and exhibit openness to peer review.

5. Acquire a reading knowledge of language necessary for research.

6. Recognize the relevance of the study of the past to contemporary issues and concerns.

7.Relate the role of history in asserting national identity.
