About me

Hi, I am Basavraj Khanppnavar!!

My family and friends also known me as "Basuraj" or shortly "Basu"

Apart from science, I enjoy hiking in nature, playing chess, and drinking coffee, with a growing interest in arts and spirituality. I am originally from the small village of Chikkanandi in India and was raised in the beautiful town of Santa Cruz (Goa), situated between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats. I completed most of my education in Goa and later M.Sc. in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology from Tezpur University (Assam). I pursued my Ph.D. at the CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (Kolkata), where I also met my wife, Poulomi Saha. I conducted my postdoctoral research at ETH Zurich and Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI). Currently, I work as a staff scientist at PSI, conducting exciting research.

Check out this 'Trends Talk' where I share my insights on the current and future landscape of structural biology.
