The Bartonville United Methodist Church in Bartonville has sponsored a Cub Scout pack since the 1970’s. Sometime in the late 1990’s the pack folded and was inactive for about 20 years. In the fall of 2016 the Church was approached to start a new pack in Bartonville. We are now beginning our fifth year of renewed Scouting! In 2018, the program expanded to reach both boys and girls in kindergarten through 5th grade. We are excited for the opportunity to share Scouting with the entire family!
Your time is valuable. Today’s families, more that ever, struggle to find time to spend together. Cub Scouting helps support your family by providing ready-made opportunities for you and your child(ren) to do things together.
Your child needs to belong to a group of children the same age. Through this sense of belonging, he or she builds self-esteem and learns to get along with others. As a parent, you want to be assured that the groups that your child joins will teach values consistent with good citizenship, character development and physical fitness. Boy Scouts of America has been weaving these lifetime values into fun and educational activities since 1910.
In a society where children are taught that winning is everything, Cub Scouting teaches him or her to “do my best” and be helpful to others.
Scouting teaches family values and works to strengthen your relationship with your son or daughter. Scouting activities can bring added value to the time you already have with your child.
But we know that boys and girls and do not join Cub Scouting just to get their character built. They join because it is fun.
Scouting is FUN with a purpose!
One unique thing about Cub Scouting is that you, as a family, join in on the program with your child, and you will help him or her along the way. The family is the basis of Cub Scouting. Cub Scouts exists to support your family and help enrich your family time together. Scouts have a different handbook at each grade level, with suggested activities that are age-appropriate for their developmental level. As your Scout advances through these books by working on activities with you, he or she will earn badges and other recognition that can be worn on the uniform. Your child’s success in Cub Scouting depends on you!
The Cub Scout program takes place at two levels. Your child will be a part of a den; a small group of boys and/or girls in the same grade level who meet weekly. All dens together, from grades kindergarten through grade five, make up a pack. Once a month, the dens, with their families, are together at the pack meeting where the Scouts show off the new skills they have learned during the month and are recognized for the badges they have earned.
