7pm-10pm every Wednesday
What do we offer?
We offer opportunities for play and advancement of abilities for players of all levels! From brand new "I just know how to move the pieces" players, to seasoned tournament sharks. We believe chess is for everyone and so provide teaching, board time, lessons, social chess opportunities and improvement resources for free! Check out some opportunities we provide for people based on their skill levels and comfort with the game below.
Are you a new player to the game just looking for somewhere to get out and play so you can improve your abilities and learn what chess is all about?
Join us weekly on Wednesday nights for instruction from some of our most experienced players and coaches starting at 7:15pm. Learn basic endgames, middlegame principles, and opening theory at your own pace with Rick and Felix!
Plenty of players with online experience have a tough time making the leap from a 2-dimensional board to the 3d, face-to-face experience that over the board chess. This is where joining a local chess club can take you to a whole new level.
Join us weekly at 7pm for casual games in the main room where you can play against players of all skill levels. Local chess clubs are often the only places that online 800-1200 rated players will have the chance to play with 2000+ rated FIDE and CFC rated opponents. Take full advantage of this opportunity to play blitz and rapid games in a laid back setting like we have at the club!
If you are looking to play in CFC-rated tournaments either to earn your first rating, or to gain rating points with real tournament experience than this is the place to do it!
We host an ongoing bi-weekly club round robin where the players fight it out 1-on-1 in intense matches that count towards their national rating in both quick and classical time controls. On top of this, we host our large quarterly events where players from around the province travel to compete for cash prizes and official rating points in 5-round Swiss tournaments.
How can I join?
Join us in person on any Wednesday night for free! New members are always welcome, we even provide boards and clocks. Send us an email at barriechessclubinfo@gmail.com or send us a message on our social media if you have any questions or want any information before you come out.
Puzzle of the day!
