I am originally from Mora, MN. I grew up there before setting off for higher education. It was at Saint Cloud State University where I received my Bachelor's in both History and Social Studies Education, as well as a Master's in History.
During my teacher development in Minnesota, I was fortunate to experience several different schools of varying sizes and demographic makeup. I was able to teach at Saint Cloud Apollo, Monticello and Milaca. I was also able to teach overseas at Munich International School. After graduation I chose to accept a position at the American Community School of Athens, where I taught for five years.
Transitioning back home to Minnesota has been exciting and rewarding, and I am thrilled to take on new challenges at Isle. I look forward to growing professionally and personally through this new chapter of my life, as well as inspiring younger minds to reach their expectations and beyond.
I strongly believe that education is a lifelong pursuit, whether we realize or not. It does not stop when we exit our schools and is something that enriches our lives with wisdom and perspective. I see every student as a human being with unique interests and skills. It is my hope to inspire in students a love for learning and social studies, much as my teachers have done for me over the course of my life.Â
Finally, it must be said that while academics are the primary focus of any educational institution, grades do not define a human being. Indeed, it should be a concomitant aim of ours to foster civic engagement, ethically aware, active citizens of the global community by providing the necessary tools to succeed in an ever-increasing, interconnected and complex world.
