The Quick Paper sculpture was simple and straight to the point: creating a sculpture that you can make within a short amount of time. My sculpture was taking a sheet of paper, folding it in half, and cut from each part of the folded rims to create pop up squares.
I came up with three ideas on how I was gonna approach the slow paper sculpture.
This is my birdhouse that would be made out of an entire cardboard box. And this is before the entire box was covered with paper.
My finished product on the Slow Paper Sculpture. Material included a large cardboard box, tons of paper, wooden rods, and tape.
This is the image that I would be refrencing for my relief sculpture. It's from a book that shows mythical creatures.
Grootslang was mostly made out of Paper Clay to create the five layers of depth.
Here is a sketch featuring how I would make the relief sculpture showing the step by step process.
Here is the sketch for my serial plane sculpture. I was gonna cut out pieces of cardboard and create gaps to meet the serial plane expectations and hot glue the pieces together to make one big staircase.
This is the final product. Some of the pieces didn't stabilize enough to make it a giant staircase, so instead the serial plane looks like the sculpture is collapsing from the top, which I thought was a nice touch.
Here is the soap carving sketch, where it shows the step by step process.
The elephant cut out from paper.
Here is the elephant traced onto the soap bar.
Here is the finished reductive sculpture.
Here is a comparison between the sculpture and the paper outline.
Here is the sketch of the soft sculpture, which shows the toppings and condiments as a reference for how the sculpture was gonna look like.
Here is the sketch of what the soft sculpture would look like once it's completed.
Here is an in progress image of the Burger Meal. For the toppings, I was gonna use color fabric felts and cotton balls to make the stuffing.
Here is the Burger Meal in its finished form. The size is just about right, and there's a lot more interest all around.
For my first Portfolio Builder, I was gonna do another relief sculpture, but this time with the other alternative, cardboard.
Here is the relief sculpture depciting a bedroom. You can see the bed on the left, a closet, some items on top, and a window.
My second portfolio builder is another reductive sculpture, carving the letter F.
Here is my reductive sculpture from one angle.
Here is the sculpture from the other angle at its center.
This is another soft sculpture that I did, and I used color felt fabric to do this. And similar to the Burger Meal, I flipped the felt inside out while adding the stuffing in so that way it doesn't look flat.
