Super T Aviation - Pedagogy Training
The road to this point in my life has been bumpy, but not impassible. I made it, so could anyone else.
I was born and raised in Medicine Hat, AB on a cattle ranch (where I still reside to this day). In fact, the name of Bar None was generated from my father's previous horse brand: a O with a bar overtop. We were the "Bar None Ranch" until we gave up the brand and it has since been purchased by another operator. Naming this venture after it is a nod to my dad, Allen Schattle (1948-1989)
Growing up, loving airplanes, I joined Air Cadets, and planned to become a military pilot-that is until the recruiter told me I was too tall to fit in a cockpit. My next best option was to become a math teacher - so I dropped aviation dreams completely and pursued education relentlessly. I made so many mistakes in the early part of my career. I tried to find where I fit, and it was truly like fitting a square peg into a round hole. Things that came as "no brainers" for my colleagues were something I had to practise. I'd come home mentally exhaused from having to think through every second of my day - over taxed and my social "bank account" drained.
But I loved to teach. I tried to come up with other careers I could pursue, and I always returned to teaching. I really did love it. I pursued a master's degree, earning it in 2011, and worked towards securing a leadership position. In 2019 I was awarded a vice-principalship at a K-12 school in Southern Alberta. I loved every second of it, even if I did live through COVID during my first year. It was a great feeling to finally affect change. At the end of my second year, the school collapsed the VP position and I was transferred to a new school as a regular classroom teacher once again. I was devastated to lose that part of my dream. I decided to return to my first love of aviation, and pursue my private pilot license at our local flight school. The school I worked at also had an aviation program where students in high school could gain their pilot license - so I wound up learning with some of my own students. The next year I was brought into the fold of the Flight Academy at the school, and began to merge teaching and aviation. The knowledge that I have gained during these past years has proven invaluable and it is where the original idea for Bar None's services emerged. I saw that the flight training industry was screaming for an educator's touch. The problems being faced are the same as those we see every day in K-12 education - but the approach is different.
I decided to offer these services as a "hand up" for flight schools wishing to add value to their student experience in the ab initio phase of training.
I am a Commercial MIFR pilot in Canada, and my goal is not to teach anyone how to fly - you already know that - My goal is to teach you how to teach better, more effectively, and make your students the best they can possibly be.
Give me a call, and let's discuss how Bar None can make your flight school amongst the top performing in the nation.
