BARNARD COLLEGE

COMMUNITY COMPACT

Recognizing the interconnectedness of all members of our community and my responsibilities as a Barnard student, faculty member, or staff member, I understand that the health and safety of our campus is a shared obligation. I agree to prioritize the health and safety of members of the Barnard community, recognizing that my individual actions may affect the community as a whole, and I will abide by any federal, state, local, and Barnard public health guidance and protocols on and off campus.

As the COVID-19 pandemic, and other public health threats, continues to impact our community and world, we remain committed to protecting the well-being of our students,

faculty, and staff. I understand that, based on public health circumstances and data, guidance and protocols will likely change, sometimes abruptly, and I agree to keep myself informed and follow the current advice and protocols posted at https://sites.google.com/view/barnard-pandemic-response-info/home.

I commit to taking the following actions to help safeguard us all:

Testing

I will participate in Barnard’s asymptomatic surveillance testing program and be tested for COVID-19 at the interval directed by the Public Health Response Team. I understand that any positive test results, including non-Barnard tests, need to be reported promptly in CoVerified or to the Public Health Response Team (phrt@barnard.edu) for follow-up.

Masking

I will wear a mask as directed by College officials because I recognize that wearing a face covering in public spaces is among the most effective ways to limit virus spread. Masking requirements for community members may be adjusted as appropriate to meet changing circumstances and public health recommendations.

Vaccinations

I will follow the College’s and public health guidance regarding the COVID-19 and seasonal influenza vaccines (religious or medical exemptions will be considered for those who request them). This means I will be up-to-date with approved COVID-19 vaccinations (), or will have obtained a College approved exemption. Additionally, I will get any recommended Covid-19 booster vaccinations if required and will also get the current flu vaccine as soon as it is available unless I have obtained a College approved exemption.

Health and Recovery

I will self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms and if I become sick will isolate in my home or on-campus room until tested and/or feeling well.

If I test positive for COVID-19, regardless of whether or not I have symptoms, I will follow all isolation protocols, which may include staying in my assigned, student, residential space. I will not return to class or work until I have met the criteria to end my isolation and as per instructions by the Public Health Response Team.

Guests and Visitors

I will abide by College protocol for campus visitors, and will ask them to provide vaccination status and submit to COVID-19 screening as required by Barnard officials.

Community Conduct

I understand that COVID-19 still poses a significant risk to health and safety and that Barnard is continuing to take appropriate measures to protect our campus community.

I will make intentional choices, on and off-campus, to help to limit the spread of COVID-19 to others in the community. When studying, living and working as a community, there is an expectation that we will all work together to stay well. It is my responsibility to stay up to date on changing conditions and information by checking my Barnard email address. I will abide by the College’s policies and protocols regarding COVID-19 and other public health situations and encourage other community members to do so.

I understand that adherence to this community compact is required and that failure to follow these expectations may result in disciplinary and/or administrative action up to and including mandatory public health withdrawal or termination of my employment. Please read more about the Code of Conduct here.
