Barleycorn Music Club

Welcome to South Africa's longest running music club!

Barleycorn Music Club supports and promotes original music in Cape Town, South Africa. We, of course, welcome original music from all over the world.

We meet every Monday, except public holidays, at The Barn, Kelvin Grove Club, 144 Campground Road, Newlands, Cape Town.

Doors open 6:30pm.

Shows start at 7:30pm.

Usually we showcase 3 acts each evening.

Follow us to stay up to date.

Barleycorn is a non-profit music club, and we do not pay musicians to play. All membership and entry fees collected go towards running our evenings, and sponsorship and prizes for our annual events: the Annual Songwriters' Competition, and, every other year, the Barleycorn Music Festival. The Barleycorn Committee volunteer their time and efforts, and have been for almost 50 years, to providing a unique platform for up-and-coming and established singer-songwriters and groups to showcase their original works.

At Barleycorn, we are a "listening" club, which to us means that whilst the musicians are playing, we the audience are silent and give our focus to the musicians. Musicians may ask for audience engagement, in which case it is encouraged.

If you'd like to play, please contact the presenter of your preferred date - see the link "Want to Play?"

Occasionally, we will have "Feature" evenings and "Benefit" evenings where a portion of the entry fees collected go to the headline act or a charitable cause. These evenings are set up by prior arrangement with the Barleycorn Music Club Committee and are announced as such.

Entrance is R50 for Members / Pensioners / Students, and R60 for Non-Members.

Barleycorn does not take table bookings at this time. Please arrive timeously to ensure you get a table. For busier shows, we may set out rows of chairs to accommodate everyone.

A well-varied selection of foods and drinks are available at the venue.
