Concrete Experience
Upon researching the negative impact over tourism has on Barcelona as a destination, and therefore the locals. I conducted research on how the issue can be minimised through the implementation of technology. I chose to create an application idea, based on the application Feel Florence, but tweak it slightly and apply it to Barcelona. I concluded that if it works in Florence, why not try it out in Barcelona?
Reflective Observation
The process was insightful, and coming up with the idea of Barcelona Bound was quite rewarding. Tackling over tourism in Barcelona is important, not only for an enhanced tourism experience, but firstly for the locals of Barcelona. Market research allowed identification of tourist numbers, and demographics to pinpoint the target market. The target market was identified, and can be reached through enhanced digital marketing among social media platforms.
Abstract Conceptualisation
What I have learned from this experience is the advantages of how technology can assist within the tourism industry. 5 benefits of Barcelona Bound have been presented and justified. I believe Barcelona Bound will have a positive impact on the destination and how it is perceived by tourists. With the hope that tourists will act more sustainable and make better choices. Furthermore acting as an opportunity for authorities to reflect.
Active Experimentation
The next step would be to create, and test Barcelona Bound, in the form of a demo application. To collect user feedback and views on the application. Through testing, it will enable a more successful application once officially launched. By making Barcelona Bound free to download, it will encourage users to download and use the application.
