Barbara Kronau-Sorensen has been studying and playing music since she was given her first instrument - a harmonica - before pre-school. She is a gifted and talented producer, director, musician, internationally touring singer/songwriter, artist, model, composer and author. Ms. Sorensen has taught music to preschool age children as a Kindermusik teacher and occasionally gives music lessons on guitar, piano, saxophone, recorder, or harmonica. She founded and owns an entertainment production company - Emerald City Music Productions, Inc. since 1991. It is under the umbrella of this company where she creates & develops multi-cultural, family-friendly multi-platform content (books, CDs, DVDs, music videos, music, games, apps, websites, merchandise, and more) concerts/tours, traveling art exhibits, special events and shows.
Barb is a native to Germany and America. She speaks fluent High German and clean midwestern English. She reads and writes fluently in both languages. Because she has knack for languages, she can also sing cultural folk and Christmas songs from many countries. (Norwegian, Swedish, Polish, German, French, Italian, American/English, Greek, Swahili, Spanish).
In concert, Barb Sorensen delivers an eclectic mix of original pop/rock/alternative music, which can be found on her 8+ albums.
Barb’s original music style has been described as a blend of alt rock, pop, folk/country. Her influences include classical music, Spanish flamenco, opera, German military marches, German waltzes, ska, tango, folk, country, jazz, and rock 'n' roll.
Barb performs either as a soloist on acoustic guitar, with a string quartet, or with her full backup band. Her backup band consists of drums, bass, electric guitar, keyboards and 2 backup vocalists. Barb performs regularly at colleges, festivals, park band shells, coffee shops, special events, festivals and faires, and anywhere else people love to hear a beautiful voice with a loud fiery rock and roll attitude.
● The largest audience Barb Sorensen has played for to date is over 20,000 at the BMO Vancouver International Marathon in Vancouver Canada 2015 and 2016.
● The second largest audience is over 6000 people at the Rosemont Convention Center for the Special Olympics Carnival.
● Barb has also performed for over 5000 at Willow Creek Community Church in Barrington, IL.
● The most adventurous concert she has given thus far was sold-out at The Hard Rock Cafe in Baltimore, Maryland Harbor. Three ovations and the audience would not let her off
stage. Then a shipload of sailors pulled into the harbor and overwhelmed the area so she was blocked from the entrance. The manager finally made his way through the crowd to
help her off stage.
The most prestigious concerts she has had to date are:
● o A special performance for the White House Christmas tree lighting celebration in 2004 in Washington D.C. (chosen as one of three from over 600 applications)
● o A concert at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. for which she was nominated by former Illinois Senator Philip Crane and won to represent the state of Illinois with a special concert on the Millenium stage
The first sold-out concert Barb gave was a Christmas concert at the Schaumburg Public Library - with a packed standing room crowd in the hallway listening in
The second sold-out concert was her Christmas concert at the Spring Valley Nature Center Log Cabin in Schaumburg
