BioBlitz
Discover some of the shy, wee beasties that live in the bushes and flowers in Thomas More garden. We will be looking at bees and all sorts of bugs – and maybe discovering what lives in the depths of the Lake.
The BioBlitz is for children and adults of all ages. We will provide nets and collecting jars and magnifying glasses and ID sheets. We will use the iNaturalist App https://www.inaturalist.org/ to help us identify any mystery visitors. And then return the creatures to where we found them.
Guerrilla Seed Balls
Let’s get messy and make seed balls! It’s a great way to spread wild flowers that are good for bees and other pollinators. The seeds are mixed with peat free compost and clay. Just add a tiny bit of water to bind the mix and make little round balls that you can throw into planters and flower beds. The balls are packed with cornfield annual seeds – red poppies, white corn camomile, yellow corn marigold, pink corn cockle and blue corn flowers that will flower in spring
Take away the seed balls to give to friends and family as well as spreading them in the wildlife garden or Barber Surgeons meadow.
To celebrate the biodiversity of the Barbican, join us for a bat walk to meet some residents that have probably been living on the estate for as long as us!
We will walk through the Barbican Gardens with bat detectors and hope to see and hear our resident Common pipistrelles and maybe other species.
