Mickey (Luke Kenny) is an American, temporarily based in Mumbai, who is in search of an instrumentalist capable of playing the (Indian) banjo. While trying to contact his music festival aspirant friend Christina (Nargis Fakhri), he comes across a local concert organised by a band of poor friends: five of them, led by Taraat (Riteish Deshmukh), who, unknown to Mickey, is the right match for him and Christina to show up at the festival. Christina, upon arrival in Mumbai, is forced to seek out odd jobs and portray Mumbai as dirty, but when, through a local MLA, she meets Taraat, who falls in love with her at first sight, she begins recognising the city as a good place. Taraat is at loggerheads with the leader of an underpaid rival band, who frames him wrongly for the assassination of the MLA who had introduced Taraat to Christina. By that time, in a twist of fate, Christina, while trying to chase the sounds of a banjo being perfectly played, discovers it is Taraat, and convinces him.

Authentic Bowtie Mastertone appointments such as the bottle shape headstock, signature bowtie inlay, concentric resonator rings, and that authentic era correct sunburst finish against the deep reflective nickel plating make this banjo an absolute show stopper!

I play banjo, mandolin, and guitar, and I wish Banjo Ben would have been around when I was first learning. Whether you're a beginner, an intermediate, or advanced picker, Banjo Ben has lots of lessons that will improve your picking.

We are located in the Uptown section of New Orleans, Louisiana and are happy to meet with you in person to let you play some of our fine banjos and guitars in person. Please call with at least 24hrs notice so we can set up a time.

Learning how to play the banjo is no different. There are different types of banjos and plenty of new terminology for parts of banjos and playing styles. Aspiring players also wonder what makes one banjo better than another.

Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. We are excited to be collaborating with Ed Helms, Molly Tuttle & Ketch Secor, and Kristin Scott Benson. Each banjo has been designed in collaboration with the artist, and in some cases the charity itself, and personally signed by the respective artists. They will be auctioned below from Nov 28th through Dec 10th with the proceeds benefiting the charities of the artist's choice.

Video interview with Kendl Winter where she shares tips and advice for banjo players, talks about how she got into banjo, what projects she's currently working on and her upcoming album "Banjo Mantras." Her single "Humming Mantra" will be live September 8th! A...

Banjo After Dark started as a shelter in place project during the Covid-19 pandemic. I would sit in my back room and pair a cocktail with a banjo tune. I couldn't be happier that now, as we come out of lockdown, B.A.D. is a live event! Every Thursday at Borelli's in Chicago (2124 W Lawrence Ave.) the old time community meets for a short show at 7pm always followed by an open jam at 8pm. Weeks alternate between featured guest performers and the house jug band. Check in on this page for the upcoming schedule and video posts + cocktail recipes.

I'm playing a 12 String banjo with 7 sympathetic strings. A beautiful instrument made by Noel Booth. I love the way is sounds when played slow and I like "Nancy" that way too. Pairs well with a Negroni:

-1 oz Big Gin barrel aged gin

-1/2 oz Ransom Sweet Vermouth

-1/2 oz Campari

I love playing during a rain storm with the window open...so this upload features the thunder as a guest artist. Last Chance Blues is another tune with a banjo tuning named after it and it's heavy on the mood. I paired it with a "Gambler" since those guys take lots of chances. It's a simple drink. 2oz Templeton Rye, 1/3 oz Basil Simple Syrup and a squeeze of lime on crushed ice in a Moscow Mule style tumbler.

This is a great app and i know there's a lot of suggestions for additional instruments but I'd just like to suggest developing a banjo app. Finding instruction in person (at least where i live) or in a decent app is near impossible. Considering the effectiveness and appeal of the guitar version you'd have the market cornered on quality banjo instruction and i'm guessing it wouldn't be too difficult to modify the guitar interface to work with it.

^ I second this. Almost signed up for an annual subscription via the app to help me further my banjo skills until I realized it only teaches guitar. I do appreciate, and regularly use, the banjo tuner, so thanks for that. Would love to see banjo lessons included with your subscriptions though ?

I would gladly purchase a subscription if you added the 5 string banjo. Without it, the app is useless to me. Can you please leave a comment for everyone on here about whether or not you're working on adding it or if we are just wasting our energy asking for it? I'm sure it would be much appreciated by all. It seems people have been asking for it since 2015 and you haven't replied to anyone. What gives? Not to throw stones, but that seems like poor customer service to just ignore people willing to pay for your product.

I'm sure there are many more people interested in adding the 5 string banjo, but they just haven't taken the time to say anything. 335 votes is a good amount of people to move forward with adding it in my opinion, but I don't know what the overhead costs would be to do it. Please let us know!

I think that it is imperative to if to add the banjo as an instrument to the app. I was once a member of this service service, and and grew exponentially with my guitar skills. At the same time my banjo began to collect dust. I love my Jolene Fender, the name of my banjo, And I love the yousician service . Please help me merge these two loves so that I can grow with my banjo in the same way that I did with my guitar. I am happy to become a paying member of this service again once the banjo is added.

In short, we owe the banjo's modern presence in America to Africans who were brought here against their will. Thus has the banjo become like okra, an undeserved gift to all parts of Southern culture, but one that came only from the people our ancestors enslaved.

But if we wind back the clock and parse out the pieces of the banjo's history that have been widely forgotten, the result is a fascinating picture of America (and, specifically, of the South) that can teach us incredible things about ourselves and provide a stepping stone to a greater understanding of one another.

Exploring the history of the banjo has shifted my perspective on the way that I want to move through the world. I used to think I knew the banjo; now I know differently. I will no longer accept anything at face value, but I will choose to dig deeper, to find the roots and truths of things, and peel back the layers until the inevitable wisdom reveals itself.

B\u00E9la Fleck presents the inaugural Blue Ridge Banjo Camp to be held at the Brevard Music Center in Brevard, NC on August 15-19, 2018. The camp will feature 3 days and 4 four nights of diverse banjo instruction by B\u00E9la himself alongside a cast of world class banjo players/instructors. The week will culminate with a finale concert held in the beautiful Whittington-Pfohl Auditorium. The instructional focus will be on the three distinct styles of three-finger banjo playing: Scruggs, melodic, and single string. The Blue Ridge Banjo Camp will provide banjo players with the tools to improve their playing and aims to contribute to the overall growth of the fine art of the 5-String banjo.

I can confidently say a resounding YES! Since I started playing my Deluxe 6 string banjo, my guitar playing has improved. Since getting it in 2010, I went through a process of learning the subtleties of my new found friend. It was both easy, because the Banjo is so much fun to play, and intense, as I found out that the dynamic range of the banjo is incredibly wide.

My experimenting with it was not just exposing me to the new possibilities that playing the banjo offered me but also, as I later found out, permanently affected how I play the guitar! I found out that I was missing out on so many tonal, and stylistic opportunities playing the guitar the way I did before I started playing the banjo.

Now, when I look at a phrase on the guitar, I don't just see a single melody, but rather a harmonized melody using a parallel note approach. I now play trills, and fills that I never thought of before playing the banjo, and I am getting a much richer sound from my guitar due to taking better advantage of right hand placement, as well as better fret position choices. The range of possibilities that hearing and playing the banjo has opened to me has added a new level of artistic styles that have made my guitar playing sound more like an orchestra instead of just another solo fingerstyle player. ff782bc1db
