About Bandung Symphony Orchestra
Bandung Symphony Orchestra is a community orchestra based in Bandung. First established as a group in 2023, BASO made its first public concert in February 2024, to over 300 guests who arrived on that night. BASO is focused on developing younger generations as a group with its visions and missions
Vision:
As a place for young musicians to manifest their abilities.
Missions:
I. To build a voluntary participation of musicians actively.
II. To hold regular musical events that develop the ability of musicians.
III. To become a community for sharing experiences and learning together openly without any cost.
Nathan Budiman Artistic Director, Conductor
Nathan Budiman is an Indonesian student conductor, composer, violist, violinist, and pianist currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in music composition at Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH). He serves as the music director of the Bandung Symphony Orchestra and the Jakarta Baroque Collective, and has led various ensembles including the Parahyangan Orchestra and PLUS Choir UPH. As an active orchestral musician, Nathan performs as a violist with ensembles such as the Parahyangan Orchestra and the UPH Student Orchestra, where he holds the position of principal viola, and was recently appointed principal viola of the Light Ministry Orchestra directed by Addie MS. As a violinist, he performs with the Voice of Joy Orchestra and Choir. In 2025, he co-founded a baroque ensemble, Trio Bandung Barok (Bandung Baroque Trio), under the Bandung Symphony Orchestra, where he serves as continuo keyboardist. He currently studies conducting under Budi Utomo Prabowo and composition under Antonius S. Priyanto, with violin studies under Amelia Tionanda and piano under Matthew Hansel. Nathan’s compositions have been performed by the Bandung Symphony Orchestra and the Parahyangan Orchestra, and more recently featured at the UPH New Music Festival. His work has also been performed by the nonesuch.reedquintet (Oregon) in a reading session. He has participated in masterclasses with Giovani Biga, Riana Heath, Sebastian Nowak (violin), Dr. Randall Bradley (conducting), and Moritz Ernst (harpsichord), and in orchestral coaching sessions with internationally renowned musicians such as Miti Wisuthumporn (Thailand), Nachapon Tiptan (Thailand), Bob Stoel (Netherlands), and Carmen Caballero (Spain). Nathan has also performed under world-class maestros including Olivier Ochanine at the Bandung Orchestra Festival and Maxime Pitois with violin soloist Shuxiang Yang in the Bandung Philharmonic Orchestra Academy.
Kasih Karunia Indah Artistic Director, Conductor
Kasih, born on 12th of October 2002, is a university student with an interest in Music. Kasih learns classical piano with the guidance of Sari Badudu, and conducting & composition under Fauzie Wiriadisastra.
Currently, Kasih is pursuing bachelors degree in Integrated Arts, Universitas Katolik Parahyangan in her fourth year. When Bach Meets Barbie: A Musical Evolution concert is the second concert she performs as a conductor. Before, she conducted her own piece in Parahyangan Orchestra's second concert, Kizuna.
Gregorius Gerald Pratomo Artistic Director, Conductor
Gregorius Gerald Pratomo, M. Mus also known as Gerry is a conductor and organist born in Jakarta in 1997. His early musical life was greatly influenced by several of his teachers, including Pater Antonius Soetanta SJ at the Ascensio Choir, as well as Budi Utomo Prabowo and Joseph Kristanto Pantioso at Sanggar Musicasa. He pursued studies in Church Music, Pipe Organ, and Conducting at the University of Music Freiburg (Bachelor of Music) and continued his Master of Music degree at the University of Music and Theatre Munich.
During his studies, he received conducting guidance from Franziska Kuba, Frank Markowitsch, Winfried Toll, Andreas Winnen, Peter Dijkstra, Michael Gläser, Lancelot Fuhry, and Uwe Sochaczewsky, as well as participating in conducting workshops and masterclasses with Trevor Pinnock and Florian Helgath.
He is currently active as a jury member for various choir and songwriting competitions in Indonesia, including the 2nd National Pesparani in Kupang, the 3rd National Pesparani in Jakarta, the Regional Pesparani in Merauke (South Papua), The 3rd Palembang Choral Exhibition, the Rampak Sekar Festival of the Diocese of Bogor (Parish & Deanery level), the Songwriting Competition of the Faculty of Philosophy at UNIKA St. Thomas Medan, and the 2024 DKI Jakarta Pesparani Songwriting Competition.
In addition, he frequently gives trainings, masterclasses, seminars, and webinars across Indonesia. He currently serves as a member of the Music Section of the Liturgical Commission of the Indonesian Bishops’ Conference (KWI) for the 2023–2026 term, as well as the Program Coordinator of Organis Indonesia for the same period. Since February 2024, he has also been a lecturer at the Faculty of Philosophy, Integrated Arts Program, at Parahyangan Catholic University (Bandung), where he teaches Conducting, Music Theory, and Aesthetics, and assists as one of the conductors of the Parahyangan Orchestra. As of September 2024, he also joined the Bandung Symphony Orchestra as one of its conductors.
Veronica Emily Hadinata Artistic Director, Concertmaster
“Bohemian Rhapsody" played by violinist Lucia Micarelli at Josh Groban's concert attracted Veronica Emily Hadinata's attention to studying the violin. At the age of 8, Emily began studying the violin under Brigitta Setyorini, then continuing with Arya Pugala Kitti and currently studying under the guidance of Giovani Biga.
Emily is also active as a violinist in her school orchestra, Laurentius Symphony Orchestra, and Parahyangan Orchestra, and most recently joined the Gita Bahana Nusantara orchestra in the 2024 Independence Day celebration. In addition to violin, Emily also studies piano with the guidance of Yuty Lauda. Apart from violin, Emily also studies piano with the guidance of Yuty Lauda with a Grade 6 Distinction in 2023.
Nerissa Eva Budiman Artistic Director, Concertmaster
Born in Bandung, 2009, Nerissa started learning piano at the age of 4 with Tania Chrisentia Wirapranata. She then developed an interest in playing the violin, and now is under the guidance of Arya Pugala Jotya Kitti.
Nerissa and her friends won 3rd place in the Audio Music Production UniSadhuGuna Noble Scholar Competition 2022 and 2nd place in the IntiYouthFest 2025 Band Competition. In 2023, she joined Parahyangan Orchestra and premiered a composition for their 2nd Concert, Kizuna. She participated in the Bandung Orchestra Festival and participated in orchestra clinics under the guidance of Nachaphon Tiptan, Bob Stoel and Carmen Caballero.
Furthermore, Nerissa took part in the 2025 Bandung Philharmonic Orchestra Academy, conducted under the baton of Maxime Pitois and the violins section coached by Nachaphon Tiptan and Amelia Tionanda. She has also participated in several masterclasses by Giovani Biga, Riana Heath, and Sebastian Nowak.
