I share with the community the latest compilations of Armbian. To test, write one of these images on a sdcard with Etcher. After that, connect an USB-Serial converter to the 3 serial pin of the BPI M2 Zero board to have an access to the terminal.

Both images will require you to login, run iwconfig to get the name of your wifi adapter, then edit /usr/bin/pwnlib with the name of your adapter to be used for Pwnagotchi. I recommend the MT7612u chipset as they work out of the box.

Banana Pi M2 Zero Image Download

Hello. I wanted to share the working steps to get a BPI M2 Zero setup with OctoPrint. There is a decent guide but there were some missing parts that I thought would confuse beginners.

( -pi-m2-zero-octoprint/)

I had a BPI M2 Zero laying around from a project that never took off, so I figured a quad core in a small size would work great for my print server. I will be making a case for it with fan and heat sink since it does get warmer than the RPI zeros. It is pretty decent in performance and is comparable to my RPI 3b I had previously. I also used an 8gb SD card for this project.

You should be able to copy and paste all the commands from here.

Here are the steps as of this posting date:

Also is the external antenna required on these boards because the seller insists that it has an integrated antenna, but every video/article I see with the m2 zero, they are using the external antenna.

So I found this image of Armbian with OctoPrint so I likely will try that out first since the maintainer says that in his experience Armbian images will likely be the most up to date for this board. He also recommended against using Stretch images due to EOL fast approaching and according to the DietPi guys upgrading between major updates, e.g. Stretch to Buster, is generally a no no.

Thank you so much for the reference, I got a 8dbi antenna with a u.fl connector and it worked perfectly. It is very confusing that the original antenna I posted specifically lists the m2 zero and even reviews mention it working when it is the wrong one.

The first major thing to note is that the P2 Zero and M2 Zero images are compatible. This actually helps a lot as one of my main concerns reviewing this board early is that there would only be a couple of images available for it.

This is a review though. It cannot do it out of the box or with the included images correctly. If you are buying this expecting to be able to simply install the Armbian image on the eMMC without going through an absolute nightmare then no it will not do it at time of writing.

Actually I was looking around and could not find an official ARMbian image for BananaPi M2 Zero. Instead I found the post about fake images being around: -banana-pi-m2-zero-with-fakeunofficial-armbian-based-image/

Image download page obviously lists a custom ARMbian image that is not created or supported ARMbian. Also the download link through 3rd party servers are somehow a prove: -pi.org/Banana_Pi_BPI-M2_ZERO#Image_Release

There are maaaany cheap SBCs out there but the manufacturers just throw them on the market with a single initial image that is never maintained, nor kernel/firmware, thus FOSS 3rd party OS providers are forced to do that job. And in some cases they will simply not do it, especially when the kernel/firmware basis from the manufacturer is unacceptable (like ARMbian => BPi M2 Zero).

but it doesn't matter we don't provide a 5.41 image for both. (M2 got eos with 5.38) and the only 'Armbian' images for the BPi-M2-Zero were provided on Sinovoips forum and not on our dl page. Due to messed up CS pins in I'm quite confident that most images which don't disable CS (the BPi way - which was potentially harmful for the rest of our boards, that's why we don't have it in our repo) or having this patch -boot/u-boot-sunxi/add-bananapi-bpi-zero.patch#L184 (which in fact disables CS in the first stage as well before DT kicks in) will simply refuse to boot.

For option 1 I may give you some advice cause I was the original submitter of those patches (even when we don't support it) - for issues related to soldered RJ45 on the 4pin header I'm not willing to give you advice, I assume it won't work on 4.14 kernel (next) or 4.18 (dev) cause the emac nodes are missing in DT, I've no idea if it works on 3.4.113 kernel cause I don't deal with fex files anymore. For option 2 it's IMO a simple 'not our business' issue. I'm not willing to nail down problems on images made by someone else where I've no idea what patches were applied.

When the dd command is done, put the SD card in your board and power it on. The board will boot up and assign itself an IP address using DHCP. The last part of the Debian/Ubuntu image filename is the default root password ("PLACEHOLDER" for this image).

Well i did some checking and it does appear that the pins are in fact correct. But it looks like my board doesnt even boot. So either its a bad board or the image does not like the CPU which is different than a Rasperry Pi Zero/ Im going to try to install a specific Rasbian OS for Armbian chips and see if that boots. If so then illl try installing PrusaLink on top of that. Sooo Please stand by.

The armbian site does list some H2+ based boards, but not the banana-pi-zero. It seems the reason is the poor support by the manufacturer - at least some of the posts in the armbian forum indicate that the manufacturer is either not willing or competent to provide correct information about their products.

It was custom compiled for your board, and if you can't build kernel modules it seems to be not fully installed into the image either by you or by image author. (ls -l /lib/modules/5.6.0-rc5+/build or ls -l /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/build may help to debug this issue.)

His -zero-ubuntu-base-minimal/releases/tag/v3.2 - linux-image-5.6.0-rc5+_1.0-41.deb is not fully packaged, the build is just a symlink into his local directory which is not included into released deb file:

in Yocto (branch mickledore for poky and all layers) I build core-image-minimal for MACHINE ?= "bananapi-m2-zero". I flashed it to a SD card and it starts but then it hangs somewhere in runlevel 5.My questions:

Surprisingly, some light retro emulation works on the RetrOrangePi distribution. However, we had issues connecting the Xbox One controller, so we also tried the BPi-M2 Zero (note the M2) LibreELEC image, which can boot here, too. We tested NES, SNES, Gameboy and Gameboy advance emulators, as well as C64 and Amiga ones. While these mostly worked, we had mixed feelings here, with some lagging caused by only 512 MB of RAM, which is under the 1 GB required spec required by some of these emulators. ff782bc1db
