Rex Ballinger

Dr. Rex Ballinger received undergraduate degrees from SUNY and East Tennessee. He served as a Commissioned Officer in the US Public Health service. He is a graduate from Pennsylvania college of Optometry (Salus University) and completed a Residency in Hospital Based Optometry.  After becoming a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, he became a founding member of the Optometric Retina Society, and Glaucoma Section of the AAO.  He is Board Certified by the American Board of Medical Optometry.  He has served on numerous NBEO committees and Clinical Exam Councils developing Board exams.  He serves on the VACO Optometry National Field Advisory Committee and is Chair of the Electronic Medical Records/Information Technology Subcommittee as well as VISN 5 Optometry consultant.  His research experience includes serving as principle and co-investigator in numerous multicenter clinical studies including several NIH/ NEI studies as well as VA studies.  He has written several papers and textbook chapters on ocular disease and has lectured extensively nationally and internationally.
