BALTIMORE KICKERS SOCCER PROGRAM
Since its founding in 1953, soccer has been the heart of the Baltimore
Kickers. The mission statement of the club was to promote fellowship and the
German Culture through the playing of soccer. Today, the Kickers still offer an
adult male unlimited team and an adult male Over 40 team, but we are about to
embark on a sponsorship with a girls’ team that plays in the Soccer Without
Borders program. This is a very new and exciting development in the Kickers
Soccer Program.
Soccer Without Borders is a program which has been around since 2010
and have chapters in various cities throughout the United States where there are
large populations of legal immigrants to this country. They use soccer as a
means of assimilating the children of these immigrants into American Society.
The children attend American schools, learn to speak English, learn American
customs and are mentored by the coaches of the teams organized by the Soccer
Without Borders program. They are a 501C3 organization that relies on
donations to run their business. The team the Kickers will sponsor are made of
young women from African and Latin countries and most attend the school,
Vanguard Academy, which is right down the street from our clubhouse. The girls
will be of senior high school age.
We will still have our men’s unlimited team which will now play at Spring
Grove State Hospital grounds on Sunday nights at 8:30 PM and our Over 40
men’s team which plays on Tuesday nights in Anne Arundel County. One notion
I want to clarify to our members and others is that the youth team will be
supported by Kickers Club funds while the men’s teams are self-supported.
Since the COVID days of 2020, to relieve some financial burden on the Club, the
men’s program has been funded by the players and private donations.
If anyone is interested in watching our teams play, the schedules and other
soccer related information will continue to be posted on the website. If anyone
is interested in trying out or has a question on soccer, please contact the Club
Soccer Manager, Fran McGrath at mcgrath494@aol.com or at 410-530-2018.
