Current Ball Story
Each year, millions are focused on the sparkling ball. At 11:59 p.m., Constella begins her descent as millions of voices unite to countdown the final seconds of the year, and celebrate the first seconds of the next.
The History
The first ball is now known as "BallMom". She dropped until 12/31/1981. Before 1996, the ball was just all bulbs. Variations of the ball were decided by VTimes Alliance (now Square Union), such as "BallSisterr". The current Ball began her story on December 31, 1995, her first new year. Then, for the numeral update, the ball herself decided to change her bulbs, but was a bit lazy dropping a few times.. For the new millennium 2000, the Waterfall Company installed crystals on the ball, allowing the new sparkle ✨ to the new year. In 2008, the Ball had a significant change, doubling it's size, and new design. The patterns were so pretty that she decided to keep it. In 2022, One VT/CH Building got renovated, and the building became a landmark for the ball. In 2023, the ball got the nickname of "BallGurrl", due to her sparkly shine and also Terra Enterprises' ownership rights to the ball. In 2024, the ball for the first time ever was relighted, raised, and dropped for a second time. The 2008 "BallGurrl" dropped for the last time in 2025. The "Constella" ball was revealed in late 2025, and dropped for the first time in 2026. Also in 2026, Constella was relit for US250, and will be dropped again on July 3, 2026, for America's 250th anniversary. Today, Constella continues to be an iconic New Year's icon after the Christmas Star, and will have more stories for the future.
