‘Baldaquin’ is a Medieval term meaning a canopy of rich fabric or one made of stone, offering both shade and display for those within.
Baldaquin Inc Society of NZ was formed by a few informal community groups, re-enactors and alternative lifestyle people who felt the need for happenings in NZ. New members are welcome - particularly if you are enthusiastic about history, arts, crafts, alternative lifestyles and may be willing to participate at events! Baldaquin Inc. Soc's purposes are to:
(a) 1. To establish, maintain and advance participation in a wide range of the Arts, cultural activities and physical sports of New Zealand re-enactors, Living History enthusiasts and alternative-lifestyle members.
2. To encourage the education and development of members.
3. To facilitate participatory and educational events within the community, mainly as a leisure interest, but also for the purpose of raising funds for the organisation to expand the opportunities available. This may include fundraising towards the efforts of other non-profit or charitable organisations.
4. To acquire authentic or replicas of equipment, props and soft-kit pertaining to the specific eras being re-enacted.
5. Promote health, safety and responsible ownership of above-mentioned cultural equipment.
6. To run events to provide educational, social and cultural opportunities to enable participants from beginner level upwards to participate in social and/or competitive events, or other approved activity for both personal development and to raise public appreciation of these activities, through physical movement, living history activities, environmental lifestyle, writing, publishing and performances.
7. To associate with other like-minded organisations for the pursuit of any common interest.
8. To actively pursue and encourage the recruitment of new members into the organisation.
9. To borrow, raise or invest money in any manner suitable to the organisation, and to enter contracts to enable activities.
10. To pay all or any of the expenses incurred in establishing and running the organisation.
