The Balcairn Public Hall will celebrate 100 years of service to your community with a series of commemorative events at ANZAC weekend, April 2026.
We are planning a series of events, dances, concerts and open days. We would love to know if you want to attend, and if you would like to be part of planning and organising or supporting in other ways.
We look forward to welcoming Suzanne Lynch of ‘The Chicks’ and ‘The Lady Killers’ fame back to the Balcairn Hall. Suzanne will be joined by local musical legend Elizabeth Braggins (piano, vocals), also a Hall favourite.
Suzanne is on a tour to launch her autobiography, a book highlighting her special musical and personal memoirs. This concert will be a journey with tales and musical tributes. Not to be missed.
Suzanne Lynch
Suzanne was discovered as a teenager along with her sister Judy by New Zealand guitarist Peter Posa, the two sisters became regular performers on the New Zealand television show ‘C’Mon’ in the late 60’s and in 1971 as a soloist Suzanne was also a regular on the television show ‘Happen In’. Having established a name in New Zealand as the blonde member of the popular 60's duo "The Chicks" and then as a solo performer.
After a decades long international career, Suzanne is currently still very busy performing as a soloist, as a member of the New Zealand group The Ladykillers, teaches at The Auckland University as a specialty teacher, and takes pupils privately.
Elizabeth Braggins
Elizabeth (‘Liz’) Braggins is a familiar name in the Christchurch music scene. She has a unique style of piano playing and singing developed from many years of immersion in the music industry. Her highly original versions of well known songs are an eclectic mix of genres highlighting her classical, jazz, pop and rock backgrounds.
