For many years, Balboa Union Church has supported the Missions program. The programs are Bags of food for the elderly, food delivery for homes, and Food bags for people who knock on the Church´s doors looking for help and other places across Panama that need our help.
Mission programs are integral to the community service spirit of Balboa Union Church (BUC) and to our guiding principle of “Unity in Essentials, Liberty in Non-Essentials, and Charity in All Things.” BUC is committed to supporting programs that serve undernourished children and families, senior citizens, and indigenous groups throughout Panama. We offer our prayers, financial support, and when possible, our direct personal involvement in these programs.
Congregation members and visitors have the option of directing a percentage of their contributions to the mission’s program budget. The mission committee has helped to reduce expenses for some programs through donations of goods from businesses, which allows us to further stretch our budget allocation for the programs.
This program was started by BUC retired pastor, Reverend Luis Veagra, offering nutritional support to 6 families with monthly supplemental food bundles. Food is collected from congregation members or purchased through church funds. The number of families we can help is contingent on available funds.
In 2020, due to the Covid outbreak, we had to stop this program since funds were reduced and cash flow affected all the programs. We LOVE to retake this program since we helped a lot of elders and families in need.
We started this program in 2017 and continued to help homes until 2019 when the pandemic outbreak knocked on our door and donations stopped coming in. We continue to help these homes intermittently. We pray to God to reestablish this mission. Our children need us!

This mission project was started and managed by our missioner, Maria Luisa Molina, a Salvadorian missioner who helped and served 29 families and children in the Comarca Emberá-Wounaan - Peña Vijagual (Yavisa - Darién), blessing them with dry food, cloth, toys for children.
