Mission Statement: Our mission is to teach youth athletes to play basketball at a highly competitive level. We are committed to giving every player a firm foundation in the many individual skills required to be an elite player. We will focus on Mind, Body, and Basketball. Equally important, our coaches teach their players to use these skills effectively as a team. We support our coaches and parents in the development of important lifelong core values of teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership, personal discipline, time management, honesty, respect, and most importantly, pursuing excellence with a moral base by demonstrating Christian Values.
We started as a school team in November, 2019. We had an excellent season with a record of 10-2-1. We took 3rd and 2nd in two tournaments, and went undefeated in league play. Parents came to us and asked if Coach Herron and myself would be willing to form a club team with the girls, so that they could keep playing together. We had one practice, and then our season was put on hold by Covid-19. June 1st we began offering training sessions in small groups, and signed up for a few tournaments. We were still a closed club at that time with no dues, just collecting for tournaments. All of our tournaments were then cancelled, but we continued to practice. We began plans to open up the club to add different aged players, with hopes to add 3 more teams. We were able to muster up 7 girls to play in Las Vegas in August. We are beginning to add more girls and are at a place where we could take two teams to tournaments regularly. A 5th/6th team, and a 7th/8th team, and we've played in two different tournaments just to get experience. We are practicing on a rental court at one of our local facilities. We would love to have you on our team as we continue to grow. If we can get a committed group that is paying dues, we may be able to rent a local facility to call our own by August of 2021.
Wolves Clubs are made up of boys and girls teams that will train and compete in AAU. Jr. NBA, and Various other Competitions at a high level. Wolves Basketball is starting out with a 5th/6th grade team, and a 7th/8th grade team, with the hope of expanding to 14U, 15U, 16U, 17U, and 18U in the future. For official AAU definitions, please see www.aaugirlsbasketball.org. Teams will play in various formats. We will participate in local leagues throughout the Central Valley as well as highly competitive tournaments throughout California. We will play in AAU, JrNBA, and Central Valley Tournaments. We may also travel out of state in order to find higher competition. About 1 to 2 tournaments per month.
We will focus on three aspects when it comes to your child. MIND, BODY, and BASKETBALL.
Mind - We want your child to do their best academically at school. If they need help, Coach Leppke is a teacher, and will assist in helping them with their homework. We are also into Goal Setting, and Goal Achieving. We want your child to be able to set goals and then make a plan to achieve those goals. This will help your child in becoming a strong confident adult.
Body - We will encourage your child to eat with nutrition and strength in mind. We will bring in a nutritionist who will teach them about moderation, and how to eat certain foods to build muscle and balance in their bodies. Along with the goal setting, we will teach your child how to train their body through weight lifting, speed training, and exercise that will benefit them throughout their life.
Basketball- We will train your child in the game of basketball. We hope that they will build their skill level and knowledge of the game so that if they so choose, they can play in college as well.
All required documents must be complete and turned in to our administrators before any player will be eligible for practice and games. Waivers, birth certificate, report card, AAU membership card, local registration, payment contract, uniform fees, etc. The AAU card allows us to insure your child in case of injury, and protects the facility or home we are practicing at against litigation.
Our Home base a local facility that we are partnering with. For now, we are practicing two nights a week. We do our practices on Mondays and Thursdays. Players will purchase a membership at the facility for $85/mo. This will allow the team to have two practices per week, players will be able to do individual or small group training, and access to the weight room for older players.
Players will be required to practice twice per week. There will be two practices scheduled per week, per team. Participation on a Wolves AAU club team demands a big time commitment from coaches, players, and their families. Our AAU program is a higher level program and parents and athletes must really be careful not to be overcommitted to multiple teams, leagues, etc. We expect for each athlete to understand that family, church, and school related events will get the priority, and we request that such events be communicated to the coaches in advance.
Club policy states that tuition goes towards the practice facility, coaching, administration and training. NOT GAME PLAYING TIME. Club motto: “We pay to practice and work hard to play” All efforts will be made to get your child ample playing time. In championships there is no guarantee.
Bakersfield Wolves Basketball Club is a member of the Amateur Athletic Union. By joining the AAU through the Wolves Basketball Club, individual players and teams are provided with insurance coverage for practices and games, and are eligible to play in regional and national AAU tournaments. Note: Your medical insurance is primary, AAU insurance is supplemental. https://aausports.org/Join-AAU
Parents have a significant role to play in the Wolves Basketball organization. We encourage open communication between parents and coaches to help ensure that concerns about their child are appropriately addressed. Parents make a vital contribution to maintaining and improving our organization. Parents are expected to encourage, enjoy, connect, and allow growth. Parents are considered partners in the growth and development of their child.
Wolves Coaches are people who have a desire to help bring equity to the girls game of basketball. Many are former high school athletes who wish to give back to the community. Coach Leppke and Coach Herron have a long history of coaching in the Panama-Buena Vista Union School District. About 40 years combined. All of our coaches adhere to our, “More than a Coach” philosophy. Challenging them to honor and respect God and family first, and to develop our club players in the same way.
All Wolves Basketball Club players must maintain a C average and put all homework and class projects before basketball. Homework can be done during practice if necessary. Coaches would love to help them with their school subjects as well. Wolves Sports supports and promotes high academic achievement.
We understand that the financial obligations of a Club program can be very challenging. Our club is blessed to have our own facility making the annual cost competitive or less than most other club teams. Cost can differ by team and how many tournaments teams compete in. For a breakdown of club team expenses please contact the Club Director.
Tuition is monthly. The year begins on September 1st, and ends on August 31st. For High School players, they will take a break from Oct. 31-March 15. Per CIF bylaw 600, players cannot play on an outside club team during their school’s season. Spots will be saved, and a new tryout will take place in March for any non-returning players spots. There will be no tuition for High Schoolers during their time off, but training sessions will be available for them.
We require at least a 3 month commitment. Any player who leaves before the 3 month commitment, will need to pay for any of the remaining 3 months. The monthly tuition is $80. If a player wishes to take a hiatus from basketball for a short period and come back, a deposit of $160 will need to be made to hold their spot.
The $85 for the first payment is due along with the uniform package fee of $80 with the deadline given after a player makes a team. Payments will be paid to the Gameday Sports Academy.
First month’s tuition is due before the deadline given. Payments will be due the first day of each month. Gameday will send an invoice to you so that you know how and when to pay. It must be paid online through the link provided, or your player will lose their spot on the team. Starting the second month, the automated payments will be generated sometime during the first week of the month. Every player must be current on their monthly fees. In order to play in the games or participate in practice. We highly encourage dialogue and all financial issues must be communicated to the club director. Without payment or communication with club officials, it will result in a players removal from club team activities. We will do fundraising, and may be able to provide scholarships. Gameday also has some scholarships available too.
Purchasing all current uniforms is mandatory for every player/family. Uniforms are $80 per uniform (one time cost). This includes both home and away uniforms and a backpack. If a uniform becomes too small, lost, stolen or doesn’t meet club standards, (not taken care of) a player/family will be required to replace it at an additional cost. Uniforms should last approximately two years in most cases.
Tournament Fees will be collected by the Wednesday before a tournament. Cost will be divided up between the girls that attend.
