Pet Policy

Pets are a part of your family, and they deserve a place to call home too. If you are looking for a pet-friendly apartment or rental property in Ames, We offer pre-approval of requested pet tenants at select locations. If your pet is approved, a non-refundable pet fee of $250 is required as well as an additional monthly per pet in pet rent. We have a 2 pet maximum. For 1 pet, there is a fee of $50 a month. For 2 pets, there is a fee of $70 a month.

Assistance Animals

Assistance animals that are categorized as either service animals or companion animals are allowed in all units and will not be subjected to pet fees or deposits. To request approval for a service or companion animal, please contact our office.

Your furry friends are welcome at many of our properties, however the policy for the type of pet (cat or dog) allowed varies for each property. View our properties for more listing-specific details.

FAQ:

Can I pet-sit for a friend in my unit?

While your pre-approved pet is welcome home, pet sitting is prohibited for liability reasons.

Do you allow puppies or kittens?

No. Dogs and cats must be at least one year old to be approved.

Is there a weight restriction?

No.

How many dogs or cats do you allow?

We allow 2 total pets in pet-friendly apartments.

Do you allow pets other than dogs and cats?

Usually yes. Please contact the office for details and approval.

How big of an aquarium/tank/terrarium do you allow?

Up to 40 gallons.

What kind of breeds do you allow?

Please consult the following list of ineligible dog breeds. Apart from specific breed restrictions, it is important to note that any dog with a prior history of violence or attack training is prohibited as a means of protecting the public and other residents.

Ineligible dog breeds either pure or mixed breed of the following:

Pit Bull Breeds, including but not limited to

American Pit Bull Terrier

American Staffordshire Terrier and Staffordshire Terrier

Pit Bull Terrier

English Bull Terrier

Akita

Mastiff

American Bandogge Mastiff

Neapolitan Mastiff

Kyiapso

Boeboel

Dobermans

Rottweilers

Chow-Chows

Presa Canaries

Wolf Hybrids

Dogs that have been trained to attack persons, property or other animals; or dogs that have been trained to guard persons or property.

Any dog, used in any manner, as a fighting dog or bred specifically for fighting.

Any dog with a prior history of:

Causing bodily injury to a person or

Attacking or biting another animal; established through insurance claims records, or through the records of local public safety, law enforcement or other similar regulatory agency.

Exceptions can be considered if:

The animal is trained as a Service Dog (e.g. seeing guide dogs, pet therapy).
