Join Us in Our Mission Alongside Partners In Health to Make Health Universally Accessible.

BIYPIHE at their Female Power Fashion Show Fundraiser in May 2022!

Functioning as a chapter of the grassroots global health organization, Partners in Health Engage, we fundraise, educate and advocate for Partners In Health and wider global health issues.

We are excited to announce our annual fundraiser for 2024, Partners in Poetry!

OUR CAUSE: To support the Maternal Center of Excellence, a maternal hospital that is addressing the incredibly high maternal mortality rate in Sierra Leone and is teaching the next generation of healthcare professionals.

THE EVENT: Join us at BIMA to be empowered by poetry from: Roberto Ascalon, award-winning Seattle slam artist, Bainbridge Poet Laureate Michele Bombardier, student poets and more. We will be raising funds through tickets and a silent auction of student art!

The Maternal Center of Excellence

The Partners In Health-supported project our network is fundraising for this year is the Maternal Center of Excellence, a hospital for women and children in Sierra Leone. Sierra Leone has the highest Maternal Mortality Rate in the world; 1 in every 20 women faces a lifetime risk of death from pregnancy. The MCOE is a cutting-edge teaching hospital addressing this dire situation by both providing high quality healthcare for mothers and teaching the next generation of maternal health professionals.

All chapter fundraising funds this year go to the MCOELearn more!

The Paul Farmer Memorial Resolution

Partners In Health Engage's primary advocacy aim is passing the Paul Farmer Memorial Resolution. This Resolution is written by the organization we support, Partners In Health, and in honor of the passing of one of its founders, Dr. Paul Farmer. This legislation is some of the most bold and radical that's ever been seen in global health policy. Global health workers and advocates were tired of fighting for a hundredth of what we want, so it was decided the time was now to push for something we can wholeheartedly get behind. This Resolution calls for the American government to take action to address past and current harms against the Global South so our global health efforts can truly bring all people closer to their right to health.

The End TB Now Act

PIH Engage is also working to pass the End TB Now Act. The End TB Now Act demands the U.S. government do more to increase the detection, prevention and treatment of Tuberculosis around the world. Tuberculosis is a preventable, treatable and curable disease, yet 1.5 million people died of TB in 2020. These deaths are unacceptable because we could have stopped them had these people had adequate access to care. Because of the redirection of resources to fight COVID-19 during the pandemic, progress has been stalled and even reversed these past few years on Tuberculosis control. If we continue to follow the current trend, we will see another 6.6 million preventable TB deaths by 2030. Contact your senators and representatives in support of the EndTB Now Act to join our movement's rejection of senseless deaths!
