About me
Hello! My Name is Bagas Abednego Silaban. I was born on 16 January 2006 and I am currently studying at Sekolah Mutiara Harapan High School. Reading, playing games, listening to music are just some of the things I like to do when I have free time.
My Passion
Everyone has something they strongly desire or like. It can be playing games, collecting weird objects, cooking, drawing, and music. People’s passion or interest varies depending on what they are as a person. For example, if they are nice and humble, they would generally have a hobby or something that gives them a sense of peace. If they are silent and don’t talk a lot, they would have a hobby that gives them some alone time or is done by one person. Me, I am not bound to this statement. I would consider myself a rapidly changing person, not in a good or bad way. I’m sometimes active and quiet at the same time. People would have a hard time guessing what I like or don’t like because of how random I am.
Personally, my passion is collecting figurines. I’m not talking about the average hero figurines you can find at some random convenience store. I am talking about those that are high quality but also very cheap. They are none other than anime figurines. All anime enthusiasts will have a sense of buying anime figurines brewing inside them, waiting to be awakened. Buying anime figurines gives me a sense of realism that the characters from the anime I watch are living. I was a bit reluctant about spending my money to buy the figurines, but once I bought one, I kept buying another. What kind of figurines I purchase doesn't matter. That is a mystery for another story.
Is it important for everyone to learn English?
As we all know, language is one of many ways an individual can communicate with each other. English, being the one of the most essential language to be at least decent at, is used very many people around the world. Due to this, there have been showings of local languages being taught are decreasing. Personally, I think it’s very important to master English or at the very least, everyone should learn to speak English. However, it’s equally important to maintain in learning local languages like Bahasa Indonesia for example, to help keep it alive and not forgotten.
The first you should know to why English is so important to learn is because of communication. It’s quite a giveaway that every language is a form of communication or there are many ways to communication with each other. But where the majority of the world knows and understands English, communicating between people becomes more flexible. Put it this way, if you go to a random country for the first time, you would have no idea where to go, what kind of places would help you and all other things. You happen to know how to speak English. You ask a kind person for directions, and out of pure coincidence, they know what you are saying and kindly tell you the directions. Things like this helps a person build a relation and it comes in handy for daily convenience.
Another reason why you should know how to speak English, which most people might thought first of, is that it can help you find a job. The dream job you are probably wishing for in the future to get, most likely need for you to at least be fluent in English. It wouldn’t make sense if you want to work at a job in an environment where a specific language is needed for you not only to interact with your customers, but also your fellow workers. However, despite all of the things I’ve said about how important English is, local languages should be taught to preserve them for future generations. There are a few knowledges and information that are written in certain local languages that might come in handy. For examples, it could be about medicine that has been passed down from generations, wisdom to help you in life, or even just general family information.
In conclusion, I think that English is necessary because it becomes a stepping stone in progressing further down our lives. Nonetheless, local languages cannot be overlooked or foreshadowed by the advances of English. I feel like everyone should put an equal amount of effort in learning both English and their local language.
United Nations Day
“The United Nations day is the product of hope”, stated a Secretary General. The United Nations Day shows the very symbol of hope, resolve, and dedication to people around the world. United Nations Day, commonly known as UN day, is an annual commemorative day, reflecting upon the creation of the first United Nations on October 24th, 1945. Therefore, it is celebrated every year on October 24th not only to commemorate founding time but binding all of the 51 countries together to promote peace and show that hatred and violence are never the answer.
Our school, Mutiara Harapan, specifically the Junior High Schools Students and Teachers, took part in celebrating this fantastic day. It was held on the 24th of October at the Junior High School building where everyone participated and had the opportunity to experience the diversity of various countries around the world, handpicked by the school in an attempt to end discrimination and build peace between countries, to show awareness that even the smallest of effort can make a difference.
Sadly, I was not able to participate and come to the event myself on the 24th of October at the venue place, but my mere presence is not going to stop me from showing how much I care and love I have towards the different nations there are. I can already tell from my classmate’s reports, that the major difference between each nation only makes it more exciting. No matter how much gap there is between each nation, whether it’s their food, clothes, music, culture, or even skill color, we must accept them for who they are and not only their bad qualities. Nobody is perfect from the get-to-go, everyone is the same and we must strive to be better every day.
"To what extent should teenagers learn? All or only the ones they are best at?"
Some people think that teenagers should concentrate on all subjects at school. Others believe that teenagers should focus on the subject they are best at or they most interested in. To what extent do you agree?
After many thoughts and discussions about whether students should concentrate on all subjects being taught at the school or narrow it down to a single subject that the student is interested in the most, no one has ever come to a conclusion where it is accepted by everyone. It is such a subjective topic to bring up to anyone. The issue as to why this becomes very problematic is that some people don't try to understand or comprehend what the other side is trying to convey. Not all students want to or can learn multiple subjects when they attend school. Some want to focus on a specific subject to learn because that's the only subject they need for the future or simply because it's easier for them to learn. In my opinion, students should put equal effort into all options offered as it is highly beneficial to implement mental flexibility and high school is considered to be the most experimental period of the academic career.
To begin with, there is a reason why the school offers so many subjects to their students. The reason is to enrich themselves with their own culture. It is very beneficial for students to develop a basic understanding of their history because they would be well-rounded individuals, capable to entertain conversation with different types of workers in the future. You won’t believe how useful having so many connections with so many different people from something some students didn’t expect or plan to do. They would help you in your future endeavors.
Furthermore, another vital factor is the attempt in succeeding in the number of studies boosts and helps polish several soft skills such as decision-making and time management. Not only does each subject differ in topics of their own, but also the method you use to learn them is different. Students could alternate methods of studying from self-study for math and science, to developing a sense of teamwork in social subjects, therefore, developing brainstorming. However, not all teenagers would have the same studying as others so there is no rule as to how one would study. It varies from person to person and how they would learn better or more comfortably.
In addition, there is nothing better than discovering something you never knew you were good at. Having the potential to be significantly good at something but you’re unable to realize it because you’ve been limiting yourself to one specific subject. There is no harm in proving if you are talented at one subject even if it’s a slight chance of happening. Confirming a theory is what led to humankind discovering various things.
On the far side, others trust focusing solely on one subject would show amazing results. They think this way. After all, they believe teenagers would spend their time at school or any other place learning more effectively because they don’t feel peer pressured by other subjects that would weigh them down. It would allow them to build and hone their skills more effectively, knowing they won’t have to worry about doing top-notch in other subjects.
In conclusion, commencing a narrowed study program before they are an adult is highly harmful to fulfill personality development as well as for consecutive work mobility. Excessive and premature specializations are unquestionably negative for social relationships and could lead to future misunderstandings, thus it is preferable to study every subject offered by the school curriculum.
Christmas, Chinese new year, summer holidays, and after exams are just some of the many holidays you can get and celebrate in various countries. If I could create an entirely new holiday it would be something like, “Counseling Day”. I’m not absolutely sure if this holiday is already celebrated or exists in some countries, but if it doesn’t, I think counselling day will be very influential. In this article, I will give the reasons and outline the benefits of this holiday.
First of all, people would not have to visit any places that would provide counselling. You can pretty much do it anywhere and anytime. Although, having a professional might give you the best results. As the name suggests, it is a day when you would receive advice or even give advice to other people. It is more fun with a group of people because you can receive multiple pieces of advice from different points of view. It is always lovely to talk to someone about how you feel and get responses to help you. This day will give people insight towards their future.
Secondly, people with mental health issues would decrease because it provides a chance for people to heal and change. Mental health conditions are genuine and they are no laughing matter. It would be very problematic if it continues to increase. Getting help consistently will gradually heal the person who has a mental health condition. They will also help others who are in the same position as them. The chain of helping will continue to another person and so on. It is better for people to receive assistance from people who have experienced it first-hand
Lastly, Counselling Day will give some encouragement to various people. Some will feel braver to actually go to a counsellor on the day of “Counselling day” to talk about their problems, issues, or concerns regarding their future or just their mental health. At first, they start to feel comfortable just talking to people they are acquainted with and will eventually grow to talk to people they don’t know. Counsellors will also get more clients because more and more people see how effective counselling truly is.
In conclusion, I think counselling day will be very impactful to the world and will greatly change the society we know to a more positive and healthy community.
