Getting here

We recommend that delegates travel to Lincoln via the most sustainable method of transport.

Train: The University of Lincoln is a few minutes’ walk from the train station and is served by several operators including LNER and East Midlands Trains. If you feel able to walk from the station to campus, then we recommend this way rather than by taxi. Google Maps or equivalent will be able to guide you to campus, and it is well signposted.

There is also a train station at Newark which has a regular connection to Lincoln, or you can continue your journey via car or bus.

Car: We are well served by the following network of roads: A46/ A1/ M1/ M180 / A15 making travelling to Lincoln by car one of the easiest ways to get to us. If you are planning on driving to the conference, please be aware that there is limited parking available in P8 car park on campus. Please print this permit and display it on your dashboard.

If there are no places in P8 car park, you will need to park in local pay and display car parks. We recommend that you use St Marks Car Park (PF on this map). Do check restrictions as different maximum parking periods apply in different areas of St Marks Car Park.

Air: The closest airports to Lincoln are Humberside Airport, Robin Hood (Doncaster) Airport and East Midlands Airport.

Coach: The bus station in Lincoln is served by local provider Stagecoach as well as National Express meaning you can travel to us via coach for longer distances. The Bus Station is also next to the Train Station and a short walk to campus.

Places to Stay

There are several hotels and guesthouses within walking distance of the University of Lincoln, including:

Holiday Inn – located opposite the university, Brayford Wharf North, LN1 1YW.

Holiday Inn Express – a five-minute walk from the university, Brayford Enterprise Park, LN6 7DB. We advise double checking which Holiday Inn you’re booked into.

Doubletree – on Brayford Wharf North, LN1 1YW.

The Queen in the West - guest house a short walk from campus, 2-14 Moor St, LN1 1PR.

Travelodge - Lincoln City Centre, 16 Tentercroft Street, LN5 7DB.

There are a range of good places to stay near the cathedral and the castle, but please be aware you will have to contend with Steep Hill if you want to walk there.

Places to Eat and Drink

Lunch and refreshments will be available for all delegates each day, but some recommendations may come in handy nonetheless.

The University campus sits on the South bank of the Brayford Pool. Outlets of well-known chain restaurants are dotted on the opposite bank less than 10 minutes away on foot. A little further along, nestled under the East flank of the Odeon Cinema are the local restaurants Thai Marina, The House of Phô and China Hong, each of which has plenty of capacity. At either end of the North bank of the Brayford Pool are the pubs William IV and the Horse and Groom, which do ambitious pub food.

The Cornhill Area, bounded by the River Witham, the High Street and Lincoln Train Station, offers a range of options including sitdown places like Phô,  and eat-on-the-hoof spots like Tortilla.

If a day without fermented vegetables is too bleak to contemplate, Little Korea on Silver Street does amazing cut cabbage and cucumber kimchi. (Unfortunately, they're closed Mondays.)

There are many food outlets including some excellent restaurants in the uphill area of the city near Lincoln Castle, but few of these will be able to accommodate large groups without prior booking. Of these uphill restaurants Olé Olé is the most popular and on a weeknight walk-ins may be successful. Thailand No. 1 and The Elite also do good food and may also be worth a try without booking on a weeknight.

There is a wide range of local coffee shops to choose from. The Lincoln-based roasters Stokes supply many outlets, each worth a try. Bar Unico is an independent Italian-style café, which offers freshly prepared pizzas, soups, sandwiches and superb ice creams alongside excellent Italian coffee and a range of wines and spirits. 200 Degrees is another good option within a 10-minute stroll from campus.

Members of the organizing committee have on occasion visited the following pubs near campus: The Queen in the West (in the West End); halfway uphill: Strait and Narrow, The Cardinal's Hat; uphill: BeerHeadz, The Victoria.

Wi-Fi

The University has free Wi-Fi available for delegates, you can either log on via Eduroam or you can create an account to access our Visitor Wi-Fi Network. The network is available in all University buildings on campus.

For visitors: select the wireless network “UoL – Visitor”, a browser window will automatically open which instantly redirects to a University of Lincoln landing page. Here you will be asked to input information to create an account.

Panel Recordings

All panels at BAFTSS 2023 will be recorded (presentation audio + slide images) using Panopto. These recordings may be made available after the conference via YouTube.

If you are presenting at the conference, please ensure you have completed the short BAFTSS Conference Recording Permission Form before your panel takes place. Many thanks for your help with this.
