Our Mission

The Ben-Abraham Center for Environmental Health Sciences (BAEHS) is dedicated to elucidating the mechanisms by which environmental exposures influence human health across molecular, neurological, and population levels. The center integrates toxicology, neuroscience, epidemiology, and computational modeling to investigate exposure–response relationships and identify biological pathways underlying environmentally mediated disease. Through interdisciplinary and data-driven approaches, BAEHS aims to advance mechanistic understanding that informs public health risk assessment, prevention strategies, and evidence-based environmental health policy. Principal Investigator

Tayren N. Ben-Abraham, MPH, MSc., M.A., M.A. is the founder of the Ben-Abraham Center for Environmental Health Sciences (BAEHS) as well as a principal investigator and head of the Environmental Toxicology Research Program and the Environmental Neurobiology Program. As an independent researcher, she leads an interdisciplinary research program investigating the relationships between environmental exposures and human health through toxicological, neuroscientific, epidemiological, and computational approaches. Tayren is the sole author of a published neuroscience paper on the supertaster phenomenon and a forthcoming publication examining the effects of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) on physical, psychological, and neurological health outcomes. Her research emphasizes the mechanistic understanding of exposure-related disease processes, data-driven analysis of environmental health risks, QSAR, and other computational methods. She also writes and publishes Lab Notes and Research Notes, the educational and science communication blog series of BAEHS dedicated to translating environmental health research into accessible, evidence-based content for the public and for professionals.

I’m excited to share an important milestone in the development of the Ben-Abraham Center for Environmental Health Sciences (BAEHS).

BAEHS is being established as an independent scientific research organization focused on investigating how environmental exposures affect human health through toxicology, neuroscience, epidemiology, computational modeling, and related environmental health sciences.

After months of planning, research development, governance work, and institutional preparation, BAEHS has now taken another major step forward: our Articles of Incorporation were filed in California on September 2, 2026.

We have now launched the BAEHS Founding Fund to help provide the initial resources needed to establish the organization and begin building its research infrastructure.
