Famous for being Britain's highest station and an appearance in Trainspotting the cafe at the station is a vital part of the route for warm food, good coffee and shelter. It sits in the middle of nowhere, just under halfway through the divide.

Having slightly underestimated Day 1, we woke facing a monster of a second day in the saddle. 115km on a mountain bike is a hefty challenge for any rider, let alone two slightly demoralised badgers all too aware that it had taken them a good 11 hours to cover a mere 75km the day before.

The badger divide route then opts to take the lower Great Glen Way track from Invermoriston to Fort Augustus. This is a quality gravel track the whole way and made for fast riding. I reached Fort Augustus at 10.45am just under 4 hours after setting off from my campspot.

Leaving Fort Augustus you are faced with the Corrieyairack pass. This is a 11.7km continuous gravel climb which gains 750 vertical metres. The first 7.5km are very achievable with an average gradient of 4% and I made decent progress up this despite the heat. The final 4km however, climbs at an average gradient of 12% which in the heat and with a loaded bike was an unrelenting task. I ended up walking the majority of this final section while entertaining several thoughts questioning my sanity riding the badger in a weekend.

My day started with a glorious but cold descent down to Loch Rannoch. This is the point I should mention that I was following the Scotduro gpx rather than the one on the badger divide website. These routes differ in 3 key sections and riding around Loch Rannoch was one of them as the Scotduro route takes the road for 15km.

As I was following the ScotDuro GPX file, after Killin the route significantly differs from the badger divide route in two places. In my opinion the ScotDuro route is the easier of the two options. This suited me fine knowing today would still be my longest ever distance covered on a bike. Hence, on leaving Killin I enjoyed nearly 30km of fast riding following NCN 7 towards Callander. It was a great mix of gravel trail and paved cycle path and included some stunning views.

It was Twitter that alerted me to the existence of an off road route from Inverness to Glasgow. It was called the BadgerDivide in a slight Scottish piss-take of the divide routes in other countries. This all started with the TourDivide, a 3500km route down the continental divide of North America, and one of the most well know adventure routes in mountain biking.

The BadgerDivide was slightly shorter at a mere 350km, but that just meant it could potentially be ridden in a few days rather than needing a long break from work and a load of organising.

During his time as president, Trump deepened the partisan divide at the national level, and actively created a divide within the Republican Party. His controversies combined with various legal battles, the polarization of his own party, and the United States at large, have turned him into a nuisance and a danger in the political realm. ff782bc1db
