The dance is in the detail:
“The Flow Method teaches what can’t be seen but can always be felt. Because the dance is in the detail.” Andi Huzain (2021)
The Bachata Flow Method is a teaching methodology created to make sensual bachata more accessible, structured, and natural for dancers. Its uniqueness lies in its technique, structure, and approach: instead of focusing only on figures, it emphasises body mechanics, fluid transitions, and musical connection. This method is designed to help dancers at all levels build strong fundamentals, develop confidence, and achieve the smooth, continuous “flow” that defines sensual bachata. You should start your learning journey in the following way:
Learn the foundations and basics properly. If you have danced in a social or attended a taster class or an open class, this does not count. You should never miss class one, Always attend class one!
Do not focus on moving to the intermediate class. The beginner stage should be around 6 months. Many places will skip you to improvers, intermediates, etc There are many labels. These beginner classes cover many of the most common moves with the foundations. Without these, you will not be able to execute the more intermediate moves.
You should not be attending open classes or going to social events without learning the following:
Basic with proper form, correct body alignment, being able to respond to tension, resistance and compression. Not executing clean turns with proper technique. Not knowing the 15 base steps for bachata. Not being able to isolate the head, ribcage and hips. Not being able to control your own balance.
Enjoy the learning process. It is not a long journey in the grand scheme of things. If you rush, you will be taking the longer route or, worse yet, get injured.
