WHAT'S BABY PEACE?
We're glad you asked!
Baby PEACE seeks to address the barrier many students face in achieving an education while also helping to raise children, whether they are siblings or parents of young children, or engage in other forms of early-childhood caretaking at home.
Baby PEACE is an infant-toddler child care center, a community center, a resource hub, and a student practicum site for future teachers-- all in one place. But what does that mean, exactly?
Infant-toddler child care center
Baby PEACE is a community-designed, culturally sustaining childcare center for infants up to age three years old. Families can rest easy knowing their children will be cared for in a warm, nurturing, and culturally responsive environment.
Community center & resource hub
Baby PEACE is a place where Pontiac families, students, and the children they care for can feel safe and know that the community have their backs. Our goal is to ensure families in need can access the resources they deserve. Whether it's mental health care, access to food and shelter, or peer-to-peer support, we can help point you in the right direction to get exactly what you need to succeed. Come join us for family workshops, training, and community of practices!
Student practicum site
Baby PEACE works in tandem with the Early Childhood CTE (Career and Technical Education) program at Pontiac High School. Students develop career and life skills that will aid in their early childhood career pathways. The infant-toddler childcare center at Baby PEACE will serve as a high quality practicum site for Early Childhood CTE and Oakland University undergraduate students to get hands-on field experiences with Pontiac's youngest children.
