CBSE or ICSE? How to Consider?

It is a big task for every parent to select the right board of education for their children. A good education is a great basement for a bright future. However, certain important factors need to be considered while you select a good board for your child.

Initially, ICSE started as an alternative to the British and American systems.

Teaching Method

A student needs to be ready to face new challenges every time in the current world. ICSE and CBSE teaching approach have also changed, considering the new challenges. Medium of Instruction

The main difference between ICSE and CBSE is that they have a different medium of instruction. While CBSE encourages both English and Hindi Language as the medium of instruction, on the other hand, ICSE recommends only English.

Curriculum Flow

The CBSE board has given an organized curriculum to its students. It mentions how many time will it take to complete a particular portion and marks that portion carries in the examination. By following this curriculum, students can prioritize their study plan and perform well in the exams. ICSE curriculum, on the other hand, is quite detailed, and students are supposed to remember all the information.

Assessment

The evaluation and assessment of students are also different on both boards. It is the fact that CBSE gives importance to rote learning, and thus less focus is given to mental abilities such as creativity and critical thinking. For students who want to appear in competitive exams, CBSE would be a great choice. ICSE gives importance to internal assessments and practical tests and aggregates the marks with the overall scores. The ICSE evaluation majorly focuses on cognitive learning outcomes.

Change of Boards

It is extremely difficult to change the students from one board to another. CBSE and ICSE are quite adamant about accepting new students from another board. CBSE accepts an ICSE student, only if they succeed in proving the right and unavoidable reasons such as transfer of a parent. ICSE board do not encourage accepting new students in Class X or XII from any other board.
