Flume studies have been conducted to investigate bridge scour, the hydraulics of bridge elements, and sediment transport using experimental methods. Research has focused on isolated circular piers, where temporal scour depth evolution has been analyzed, and semi-empirical and machine learning models have been developed for scour depth prediction. Additionally, side-by-side, tandem, and eccentric two-pier arrangements have been examined to estimate maximum scour depth using both semi-empirical techniques and machine learning approaches. Experiments on eccentric pier arrangements have been carried out to explore temporal scour evolution, sediment shifting capability, and scour depth prediction models.

Testing of Water and Sediment Quality in the Laboratory of SWRE, JU
Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) are essential analytical techniques for detecting heavy metals and pesticides in environmental samples. ICP-OES, offered by Thermo Fisher Scientific, uses an argon plasma to excite metal atoms, enabling precise multi-elemental analysis in water, soil, and sediments. GC-MS, also from Thermo Fisher, combines gas chromatography for separating volatile compounds with mass spectrometry for identifying and quantifying pesticide residues. Together, these technologies provide highly accurate contamination assessments, supporting environmental monitoring, regulatory compliance, and pollution source tracking.
In-situ Testing and Sampling of Sediments and Water, Bathymetry and Velocity Measurements
The Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) from Teledyne is used to measure water velocity and depth. The survey is conducted using a 2.1-meter-rubber floating boat, equipped with an 8.0-stroke Yamaha engine, manufactured by Calcutta Sportsboats MFG. Pvt. Ltd. For precise positioning, a Trimble SPS-986 DGPS is utilized, along with a Hemisphere beacon receiver to enhance signal accuracy. Additionally, a South B-40 auto level is employed for elevation measurements. To collect sediment and water samples, a Van Veen grab sampler and a water sampler are used, ensuring a comprehensive hydrodynamic and sediment transport analysis.
