I’m Ana Azul, and ceramics has always been a part of my life. I was born and raised in a workshop, watching my father shape clay with his own unique touch and my mother transform pieces with colors and intricate details, as if she were a painter. Surrounded by cuerda seca, overglazes, and vibrant designs, I unknowingly absorbed what it means to create with my hands.
But I never thought this would be my path. My father used to tell me, "Study something secure; ceramics is a world of ups and downs." So I did. Seeking something creative and meaningful, I studied to become a P.E. teacher. However, once immersed in that world, I felt it had too many limitations. As a way to disconnect, I returned to my father’s workshop, exploring with no expectations, and discovered a universe without limits.
I decided to leave everything behind to learn and fully dedicate myself to ceramics. I studied at the San Telmo School of Art in Málaga, where, despite growing up surrounded by clay, an entirely new field of techniques and processes opened up before me. During those years, I experimented with new materials and approaches, expanding my vision. I also continued my training through courses and ceramic immersions, learning from the Escola de Ceràmica de la Bisbal and exploring Japanese techniques like raku.
Today, every piece I create is the result of that journey. Azul Cerámica is the fusion of everything I have learned and inherited the tradition that shaped me from a young age and my own way of understanding this craft.
