MARCH MAMMAL MADNESS
ARIZONA GAME AND FISH RESOURCES
ARIZONA GAME AND FISH RESOURCES
For years, the March Mammal Madness (MMM) program has been taking science classrooms by storm. It provides an excellent way for students to use wildlife to engage in complex biology topics such as evolution. In our mission to help teachers across Arizona and elsewhere, the Arizona Game and Fish Department has development resources that can further help implement the ideas of MMM into classrooms.
Are you looking to help students research specific animals in the MMM brackets? Check out our collection of fact sheets and other resources.
Coati
Puma (Mountain Lion)
Additional Wildlife Fact Sheets - If you want information on other species not featured in the bracket, check out our fact sheet database. This work great if you want to compare species.
Dine Traditional Teachings on Wildlife - a booklet that explores how the Navajo view various wildlife species, including mountain lions and how to properly present them in a classroom.
The Department is hosting a number of webinars related to the topics covered in MMM. These are free and you can participate from anywhere in the world! All participants will receive a certificate that may be used for continuing education credits with some districts.
Arizona Resources to Support MMM: A quick 30-minute look at Arizona Game and Fish Resources that can be used to support and supplement MMM instruction in the classroom. There are two identical sessions offered for this webinar. Choose the one that is more convenient:
Arizona's Wildlife Sweet Sixteen: Extending the Madness - A look at how to take the expand on the ideas and concepts of MMM to focus on Arizona's wildlife species. Some ideas will be mentioned for other states and areas as well.
Wildlife Educator Book Club: The Endangereds - A local Arizona author has written an engaging middle grades book about a team of Endangered Species that band together to save other animals. Bonus: it includes a number of animals from this year's MMM and could be a great way to extend the learning.
These are all workshops tied directly to the concepts presented in this year's MMM. But we offer so many more professional development opportunities. Be sure to check out our entire calendar.
