Welcome to the virtual museum exhibition on "Ayutthaya era of Thailand". This virtual exhibition will transport visitors to the historical age of Ayutthaya, that existed from the 14th to 18th centuries. The exhibition explores the intricate interaction of conflict and religion in the Ayutthaya kingdom. Four works of visual art, three design elements, and three media representations are combined in one interactive display to highlight the terrible effects of war on the kingdom's sacred places. The first step of our journey will immerse visitors in various pieces of art that reflect the wars that occurred during the Ayutthaya era, offering a unique insight into the historical battles that molded the kingdom's future. When guests enter the virtual world, they are presented with the breathtaking design arts of holy places that suffered damages during the war. The magnificent architecture of the kingdom is seen in Wat Phra Si Sanphet, with its enormous stupas and chedis, and Wat Chaiwatthanaram, a stunning fusion of Khmer and Ayutthayan styles.
The Ayutthaya era, lasting from the 14th to the 18th centuries, holds a significant place in Thailand's history. It revolved around the Ayutthaya Kingdom, situated in present-day Thailand, and played a pivotal role in shaping the region's cultural, economic, and political landscape. This era was marked by the kingdom's emergence as a bustling trading center, drawing merchants from across the globe such as China, India, Arabia, and Europe leading to a vibrant exchange of goods and ideas. This exchange gave rise to a unique fusion of cultures, influencing architecture, art, religion, and cuisine. Despite facing challenges like conflicts with neighboring states and the Burmese invasion in 1767, the Ayutthaya era's enduring legacy is evident in Thailand's rich cultural heritage, architectural marvels, and societal traditions.
