I am a senior researcher in the DFG-funded “Global Dynamics of Social Policy“ (CRC1342) project at the University of Mannheim. I am also a Governance and Local Development (GLD) Institute Fellow in 2024, an affiliated researcher at the  International Security and Development Center (ISDC), and a research associate at the Economic Research Forum (ERF). Before assuming my current position in Germany, I worked an associate professor of economics at Istanbul Technical University in Türkiye, and as a senior researcher at the University of Bremen and ISDC in Germany. During my sabbatical, I was a Forced Migration and Refugee Studies (FFVT) fellow and a visiting scholar at the Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS) at the University of Osnabrück in Germany in the 2022-2023 academic year. Since September 2023, I have also served as a guest lecturer in the Department of Economics at the University of Osnabrück, where I taught graduate-level courses on the Economics of Migration and Causal Inference Methods in Economics. 

I studied business administration at Bogazici University and earned an MSc in Economics at Birkbeck College, University of London,  with a Chevening Scholarship. I earned my PhD in Economics as part of the European Doctoral Program in Quantitative Economics, during which I studied at the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL) (my main university) and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) (as a visiting PhD student). During my PhD studies, I was a graduate teaching assistant for three years at the LSE. 

In addition to my research and teaching responsibilities, I have supervised Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD students' theses. I have also contributed as a member of the impact evaluation team at the ITU Socio-Innovation Center and served on the Ethics Review Committee for Social Sciences at ITU. Currently, I am a member of the Equal Opportunities Committee within CRC 1342 at the University of Bremen.
