The Aylward's Countrylife Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into rural Irish life in County Laois. Founded by PJ and Marian Aylward, the museum is a testament to the Aylward family's dedication to preserving local heritage and agricultural traditions.
The museum's collection began with the collection from the Old Durrow Museum, the Rathdowney Perry's Distillery Collection, some of the Flower Family collection, and other items collected or minded for future generations to enjoy and explore. Over the years, it has grown to encompass a wide array of artifacts, showcasing the evolution of farming practices, domestic life, and local crafts, music, and heritage in the region.
Utilised weekly for a practice space for the local Comhaltas group for traditional irish music, singing, dancing and pipe bands to practice, this museum offers its visitors an insight into traditional irish cutsoms and practices. Join us for a session of Dancing at the Crossroads, or some traditional Irish music classes.
The museum stands as a valuable resource for researchers, students, and anyone interested in learning about Ireland's rich rural past.
