This next step in electric vehicle design combines new engineering skills and experience from Formula SAE Electric with lessons learned from previous versions to create a more capable and powerful go-kart that can outperform all other models, all while carrying a passenger.
Current Models:
This go-kart is the reliable everyday driver built in 2022 and uses two motors coupled to a single chain for high pulling power. It frequently tows a passenger trailer and can go quite fast driving unloaded. It is equipped with all basic automotive features and lights with additional controls in the trailer.
This sleek and pointy go-kart is designed for speed with a dual-mode drive system. It uses a single 2kw direct drive motor and a large 400mm Ducted fan to provide an additional 50 lbs of thrust for accelerating faster than the maximum direct drive speed. Its 3 wheel design keep rolling friction low, but come at the cost of cornering performance.

A dual motor go-kart with a bolted aluminum frame built in 2019 that lasted almost 3 yearsÂ
PLYWOOD FLYER
a wide body go kart made from a single sheet of plywood in 2018 and was a sighificant step in power and overall handling
GLOWRIDER
A low-power go kart with many features including many lights and a fog machine built in 2017
PIONEER
The first motorized go-kart built in 2016 with a 350w motor kit was a good early learning platform for electric power systems
Thrust Vehicles:
A more aerodynamic version of Aircar II with larger tires for handling better on uneven terrain
A significant improement in thrust came from contra-rotating sets of blades inside a bucket-based shroudÂ
This first version used a homemade motor and caster wheels and barely had enought thrust to move
Before Motors:
In the early days, I used to build simple gravity-powered carts out of scrap wood and lawnmower wheels and roll them down the local greenbelt path. It was a valuable learning period where I learned how to make functional steering and brakes as well as reduce friction as much as possible.
